According to the article "...If he doesn't sign the $1.759 million tender by June 15, the Cardinals can replace it with one worth about $588,000, a 10 percent raise over last year's salary...".

Let me get this straight. The tender raises his salary, for 1 year, to $1.7 mil, from approx. $600,000? He refuses to sign a $1.1mil raise?

If he signs, then Lutui will be overpaid, and over-rated, if we trade or release him the Cardinals will have lost a future All-pro guard.

If the man doesn't want to play here then I say let him go. He doesn't have a lot of value.

y'all know I'm never one to mince words when I think the Cardinals are jacking around a player in a contract situation, so i'll turn it around when it's due... what the hell is Deuce thinking here?

Deuce is just being annoying here, I'd much prefer him to start at RG over Wells, especially if we're planning on a run heavy offense.

Lutui's holdout makes no sense whatsoever.

"He's got no hand!"

I have no idea who is right or who is wrong. I do know that I hope he remains on the team. You cannot have to many young lineman. He has gone from just another fat lineman to a young man that produces and who's best years are ahead of him. Some of lineman are very good but older. Hope we keep this young man.

As for right or wrong, I don't think the question really applies in this case.

There is little question that if Lutui had been an unrestricted FA this year he would have garnered a more substantial contract offer, which would have included a nice signing bonus. But that is not the case. And he; along with 211 other NFL players, it's worth noting; is stuck with the situation as it stands.

Perhaps Lutui feels that he is making a statement with this holdout. But reality dictates that his options are severly limited:
  1. Take what has been offered from the Cardinals, which, as FF04 has pointed out is over a million dollars more than Lutui made last season.
  2. Or sit out the season and get paid zero, while damaging his future career earnings potential. (NFL players that sit out a season for reasons other than injury rarely attain their former level of achievement)
Lutui's best option, if he desires to continue his career in the NFL is to sign the Cardinals offer. He will sign prior to the deadline, unless he no longer wishes to play football.

For some reason I think Deuce is planning on sitting out the season

He'll sign by his deadline. Right now he technically doesn't have a contract. Boldin and DD not showing while under contract was worse than what Lutui is doing.

Deuce is pissed the uncapped year has robbed him of the ability to be a F.A. I believe--in his mind--that cards should approach this offseason as if he were an F.A.

Maybe Deuce should catch a clue and sign the tender...he is cutting of his nose to spite his face.

It's that damn free agency. Cardinal players see Antonio Smith leave and get a big contract. They see Dansby leave and get a big contract. Rolle leaves and gets a bigger deal than AWilson who stayed*. Boldin gets traded and gets a big contract. So of course the remaining guys all think they should get a big contract. Even if it is unrealistic given their circumstances.

*Article on Wilson extension said it made him the highest paid safety in the league. Then later Rolle becomes the highest paid safety in the league so I'm assuming Rolle got a bigger deal.

Let him sit out. His RFA availibity will be extended another year.
He's not sitting out. It's just his way of a personalt boycott and showing the Cards that he'd like a long term deal. It's probably not the best way to go about it but who knows the entire story. Maybe the Cards had told him something would get done and now, with no CBA, they're holding back. Come June, he'll be back in the RG mix.

Bally’s Sports needs to go away
His problem now is, by missing the conditioning camp, he will make it very hard himself to win a starting job. He may get 1.7 million to sit the bench next year, but without the year of reps, he'll have a hard time getting the contract he wants next year.

He'll end up leaving the Cardinals after next season, disgusted that they didn't come to the plate for him when he had no leverage. If he doesn't win a starting job in Arizona this year he'll get a 2-3 year deal somewhere next year worth 1.5-2 mil a year with about that for a bonus.

3 years, 5.5 mil, 2 mil bonus. Something in that range.

I know its not what he's looking for, but if he wanted more, he needed to come to camp ready to win a starting spot and show the league he's worth more. (IE Dansby)

Not worried. Not worth talking about really.

Too much "mirror mirror on the wall...." As mentioned by me before, he is not more than a guard in the big part of the bell curve. Hadnot has demonstrated a whole lot more on the field....and my guess is he is a whole lot more than 3.5 clicks on the scale which is a real problem for an out of shape guy.

1. We don't have all the info needed to pass judgment on either party.

2. This past year, Deuce did not play up to predraft expectations.

3. Physically, he hadn't lost anything - his problem appears to have had more to do with technique and focus (i.e. learning and motivation).

4. Based on incomplete info, the surface observation is that Lutui has received bad advice & tried to game the system and read it wrong.

5. Meanwhile, the Cardinals wisely took out some "Lutui insurance" in the form of Hadnot and Faneca.

6. Which leaves Deuce - who seems to be a good guy (a long-time Cardinal fan who wears his heart on his sleeve but who may be a bit over his head re this "negotiations stuff") - painted into a corner.

7. I'm a "depth guy" - i.e. I don't like to give up good talent without getting equal value in return, and I think Deuce still has a faint glimmer of all-pro potential that I'd really hate to prematurely give up on.

8. So I hope we re-sign him. (But that doesn't necessarily mean that he'll beat out Wells, Hadnot &/or Faneca for a starting spot - that will be up to them...and up to him).
