On Thursday, the Rangers all but acknowledged as much. Ownership extended the contract of general manager Jon Daniels. Then Daniels talked about the future and implied that 2019 might be more about development than contention. That means the next eight weeks leading up to the trade deadline will be about breaking the current roster down and peeling off pieces that may help accelerate future growth. Enter Hamels.
