I know it is far too early to even start thinking about 2006, but here are the players I'm going to follow this year in the college ranks:

#1: Haloti Ngata, DT/NT, Oregon
#2: Mercedes Lewis, TE, UCLA
#3: Omar Jacobs, QB, Bowling Green

I might agree to drafting a "franchise" QB in round #1 next year.....especially if this kid turns out to be a Dante Culpepper clone, as expected.

Marcedes is the man, Scouts Inc had a blurb that said he MIGHT have been the first TE picked this year if his combine and personal workouts were as good as people think they will be.

I think Marcedes Lewis and Jacobs look to be top 15 picks unless their production drops significantly in 2005. I don't see us drafting there, so we'll just have to settle, I guess.

Man, are we really talking about the 2006 Draft? I can't wait for the regular season to get here!!!

:D

Derek Hagan WR ASU will be a nice compliment to Fitzgerald as Boldin will still be sittting out. :D He should also be there near the bottom of the first round when we pick.

Is he a legitimate NFL level deep threat?

What about that D-Tackle from Texas, that guy is a beast. Also, Vince Young would be a good pick. Yup, I'm on the Texas bandwagon, for the draft at least :D

Regarding Derek Hagan: NFL Draft Blitz rates him (at this time) as the number 2 wr for the 2006 draft. He is listed as 6' 2". 201 lbs, and an estimated 40 time of 4.46. He has been very productive. But who knows what his real size and speed are. We really won't know until next April after his senior year, all star games and the combine/workouts. Additionally with Walter graduating, we don't know how their passing game will be.

If the QB situation doesn't clear up this year I would love for us to go after Matt. If he has a good year as he might have he could be the number 1 qb next year.

Considering that the offense will probably way under perform, I would say the cards are in need of a QB....trade all our marbles and a disgruntled LJ Shelton (who is still on the roster but hasnt played a snap) for Matt Leinhart!

Im kidding....

Not really....

yeah I am!

We need a QB!

Vince Young was a freshman last year for Texas. I don't think we'll see him in NYC until 2007.

He was a RS Soph last year, he'll be a Jr. this year. Like I said in a previous post, if he plans on playing QB in the NFL, he won't be coming out next year unless he makes huge strides in his passing mechanics and decision making. I love the kid, and think with the right coaching he can be a good QB, but right now he is an NFL WR.
