I still think this is a team that will show progress through the year. I think the first thing will happen is Boateng's minutes will disappear while ASU goes to a more effective -- if seriously undersized -- smaller lineup. Somehow they'll end up playing better defense and getting more rebounds.
You can say that about any team that is youth-oriented. Like I said earlier in this thread there will be growing pains but the most important thing to remember that the team is in fact growing. Sendek can coach and these guys will get better, he may not have the upside that I would demand as an Arizona fan but he'll fit at ASU.

Talent-wise I think ASU is closer to Arizona than it has been since the Frieder years. Had Chase Budinger foolishly decided to go pro after last year they's be pretty equal. Right now they're both two small teams that have one dependable frontcourt player and who will have to hit shots and play pressure D to win games. Of course the talent thing changes in 2008 when Brandon Jennings and company arrive and we lose very little.

ASU Beat LSU in overtime. Pendergraph had a career high 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

87 for ASU is pretty impressive, that's like 2 games sometimes. :D
Boateng had 9, looks like harden had a nice game too. It is interesting, UCLA fans are told that Westbrook was going to ASU until Howland convinced him that Farmar was going to go pro and if he waited until late he would be able to get a scholarship to UCLA. Westbrook waited and UCLA lucked into another really good young player

Mao is right, Brady is going to get fired it's going to be really interesting.

a lot of UCLA, Alabama, Cincy and Kansas fans were hoping J'mison Morgan wouldn't sign his LOI in the early period and instead wait to see if Brady got canned. But he did in fact sign with LSU and I still think Brady gets fired.

It'd be interesting a few months ago I'd have said Tim Floyd was a mortal lock for LSU's job but he can do ANYTHING at USC to get recruits Garrett just doesn't care how he gets them so I almost now expect him to stay.

Congrats to ASU the pac 10 has suffered some upset losses recently I actually find myself hoping SC beats OU and KU or else people are going to start really doubting the Pac 10?

I'm just happy to have a legitimate college basketball team to watch again. They are going to have to do much better with free throws. Other than that, I enjoyed watching the game. I like the way Harden likes to take the ball to the rack. I enjoy that type of player. There are way too many Gs infatuated with the 3. Polk can be the spot up guy for this team.

If you say that enough I'm going to start believing you're projecting fear about a closing gap.

:D

No doubt, guys like Polk and Abbott were fallback positions considering who they were recruiting and aren't the ideal players for this system, but Sendek's staff does now how to coach kids up and get the team to play better than its parts. If that doesn't work, he's one of the better micro-managing floor generals, although I think Lute learned the hard way (first-round exits) that ultimately you have to let great talent play to their abilities to play at the highest level. Maybe Sendek will have the opportunity to learn those lessons, too. Assuming he gets another player or two like Harden in the next three or four years.

Ditto. Didn't get to watch the 2nd half or OT but heard all of it on radio in my van. Enjoyed it greatly.

The Suns have a game tonight so they are probably on 620.

I got free tickets to the ASU game tonight, so I'll be there. It'll be my first regular season game this year, I hope to see some sick Harden dunks.

EDIT: I got my values worth (which was $0, but still!). Harden was sick, he went off for 24 and had a couple great jams and one great floating assist to Pendergraph for a slam.

During halftime, Rudy C was talking to the head guy of ASUs Scout.com site by the court and he sat and gave autographs to about 50 kids. So, I don't want to hear it about him having an attitude, he was extremely cordial, patient, et cetera.

In other big news, ASU Basketball actually got 50 people to watch their game.

Xavier v Cicny is on TV right now. Its just about over, but Xavier has got some really fast athletes, but their small. If ASU has any chance, itll be Pendergraph having a big game I think.

Yeah, he changed that avator of his pretty quick after his boy (Cason) got abused by ASU all night.

That avatar was up until yesterday.

And if you call Rudy having his second lowest QB rating of the season as "abusing" the Wildcats secondary then congratulations. Antoine will be making millions in the NFL while your boy Rudy tries to make ends meet making an Arena League salary and raising Matt Leinart's kid.

I wouldn't call his performance as "abusing" but winning 3 times in a row is pretty impressive. Would you call it "owning"? Rudy will be working at the same insurance company as Tui Time. At least Rudy will have bragging rights.

I wish there was a bit more local buzz about the big game on Saturday. I guess the whole Mitchell investigation has consumed all sports talk. I hope the lower bowl at WFA can at least be full.

There's a local buzz about the game at my house. 2PM Saturday, Two of my fellow old fart ASU grads will be watching the game at my house.

I don't venture to the east side any more. Last time I was in the ASU hoops arena was to see my god-daughter graduate and that was at least 10 years ago.

Go Devils.

ASU wins! Wow, way too close considering the level of the opponent, but with that said good teams win even on their off nights against worse teams. With a young team coming off an emotional high, its good they didn't have a let down.
