Wish the Dbacks would've just gone with this like the Padres and Angels did. Arizona Diamondbacks is so long and clunky. Plus I prefer when the pro teams go by the City name and college teams have the State name. Another nice touch that people don't always notice is Firebirds colors are the colors of the Az state flag.

The Firebirds were supposed to move to Austin but people cried about spending $7.5 million on a stadium so they didn't come here. Best thing that ever happened to Central Texas baseball. Instead of the Firebirds playing in a stadium in a horrible location we got Nolan Ryan and the Round Rock Express and a beautiful stadium in a great location.

Meanwhile the Firebirds ended up in Tucson didn't they?

I think so...and somehow booted the Toros to Fresno or something.

It was complex. When the Diamondbacks came to be, it forced the Firebirds out. The owner of the Firebirds bought the Tucson Toros, and moved the team there, which forced the Toros out and they landed in Fresno.

That would have been great. I love how the Padres and Angels names evoke the long history of the Coast League. I love seeing old Phoenix Giants shirts, but the change to Firebirds was one that they got right. Promoting it to the major league level would have celebrated a history that went back to the San Francisco Seals.

But you can't just let all those Firebird fans just wear their old gear to your new MLB stadium, now can you? Gotta have new gear, and then newer gear a decade later...

Nice call on the state flag colors. I also like how the Firebirds scheme accommodated ASU and UofA colors pretty well, too.
