It's nice to se a record broken, and for the Devils to win over Wazoo, but man, what happened to the south half of Six-Pac/Pac-10/Pac-12? ASU and SC are neck & neck for the number of guys placed in MLB in the nation. Now the BBA top-25 is littered with schools from the SEC and other, lesser conferences in the SE. What, is the weather not good enough around here? The heritage insufficient? Damn, Jim Brock could roll out a random ball and 10 national prospects would fight over it.

The good Sun Devil teams were very loose and the players were having fun. I'm not sure if the intellectual approach always works.

It's beginning to look like the coaching situation needs to be revisited.

I think moving all the games off campus was a wrong move as well.

I am not sure moving off campus means anything in the grand scheme. It seems as though the coaching hire hasn't panned out. Recruiting to ASU is a much different beast than Indiana.

The question is, if they were to make a coaching change, who?

I used to attend all the big games at Phoenix Muni so you have a point. Still it feels a little cold not to have a stadium on campus.

Haven't thought much on who the Devils would hire as a new coach especially since they recently hired Herm Edwards.

Arizona has been playing off-campus at Hi Corbett for a while, and by all accounts, it’s an awesome experience, especially with recent updates.

I was trying to offer another reason for the failure of Sun Devil baseball to excel... other than the coach.

I liked attending games at Phoenix Muni as I mentioned.

Unfortunately I do not think the stadium is the problem.

Smith also says that the team and relief pitcher Zane Strand will be "mutually" parting ways

Smith says Boyd Vander Kooi is day-to-day with his injury but doesn't expect to have him available for this weekend's series against Utah. Maybe in next weekend's series at Oregon State

Arizona State baseball is 14-22 overall and in danger of a second consecutive losing season.

ASU was once such a proud baseball program.

After the Herm Edwards hire I can see Anderson being reluctant to replace another head coach any time soon.

Not sure I agree he would be reluctant however I don't think he makes a change here simply for change sake.

The regular players on this team are basically freshmen and sophomores. I think he gives Smith a bit more time to let these guys get that experience.

No logical reason why this program should have two losing seasons in a row

Yet two losing seasons in a row may happen.

ASU used to win even when they were reloading. The blame falls somewhere, either recruiting or coaching. However, it ends up pretty much the same thing. If the coach can't recruit they can't win.

Agreed and I think earlier I mentioned I think Smith is finding recruiting to ASU for baseball is very different than what is required at Indiana.

It is clear the wheels began coming off when Murphy left. The record has steadily dropped since that point after Murphys guys made Esmay look great in year one.

I found this tidbit if it hasn't already been mentioned.

Anderson said Tuesday that every ASU team is evaluated based on the entirety of a season while also stressing patience with baseball.

"We're playing a whole bunch of freshmen and they're having to learn and are going to make mistakes," Anderson said. "Our pitching is not as strong as we anticipated. We're pressing some. I'm willing to be patient and look long term if that means for four, five, six years we're going to be in the playoffs and maybe get a national championship."

I'm not that patient.

Tracy Smith was hired to coach the Sun Devils on June 24, 2014. So it has already been awhile.

Carter Aldrete said on Tuesday he was being moved to first base. Lineup card has him in right field tonight though and Spencer Torkelson still at first
