Well this should be interesting as New Mexico just doesn't pass the football much. They are running some kind of archaic offense http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...review-roster-schedule-football-four/8933407/ But they are 5th in the nation in rushing after one game.

They lost to UTEP yesterday, and almost came back from a 17 point deficit by running the ball. They put up over 400 yards rushing, but only attempted 9 passes the whole game. http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/boxscore?gameId=400548011

I suppose this will be a bit like the bowl game we had against Navy a few years ago. But I expect ASU's gambling attacking defense will get burned for a couple of long runs. Our offense should be more productive and hopefully more diversified than just the Strong and Foster Show.

Prediction:

ASU: 62
NM: 17

Anybody making the trip to the game?

BEEN A LONG TIME: Saturday’s UNM-Arizona State game will the first football meeting between the two schools since 1977.

The Lobos and the Sun Devils twice were members of the same conference – the Border from 1931-51 and the Western Athletic from 1962-77. Arizona State and Arizona left for the Pac-10, now the Pac-12, in 1978.

Arizona State leads the series, 22-5, with one tie.

The Lobos haven’t beaten ASU since 1942, when UNM won 35-7 in Albuquerque.

Saturday’s game is the first of a two-game, home-and-home contract. New Mexico goes to Tempe, Ariz., next year on Sept. 19.

GRAHAM REVISITED: The last time Arizona State coach Todd Graham coached against New Mexico, in 2008, he was the head coach at Tulsa. His Golden Hurricane piled up 606 yards in routing the Lobos 56-14.

Tulsa passed for 469 yards, converted 14 of 15 third-down situations and never punted during the game.

Graham’s up-tempo offense, Davie said, is as explosive as ever – if not more so.

“They think it’s the best offense they’ve ever had, and that staff’s been together a long time,” Davie said. “So, we all know the challenge.”

Its crazy that ASU hasn't played UNM since 1977. I'd love to see more regular series with them, NMSU, UTEP, CSU, UNLV, USU, SDSU, BYU, Air Force, UNT, Rice, UTSA, etc.

I don't love that ASU is doing a home and home with a mid major, but I wonder if ASU could negotiate more 2 for 1 series with some of these schools. I'd much rather have NM State on the schedule than Weber St. From an on field standpoint, its still a likely blow out win for ASU, but it doesn't have that same level of distaste as playing a FCS school. The only FCS school I ever want ASU playing is NAU and only because its required.

You are aware that Bleacher Report isn't really analysis. It's a bunch of unpaid guys living in their Mom's basement masquerading as journalists. Even worse than the paid cheerleaders pretending to be journalists at Rivals/Scout.com's of the world. Sports media is an absolute joke these days.

PS - the writer is a UofA fan.

Yep, but you'd think even they would know a bit more than to make that prediction. Wasn't aware of the UofA tie in, but that makes sense.

If you polled fans on an average ASU board most would say Arizona is going to go 2-10 every season. Of course that's ridiculous but Bleacher Report has given those types of people a forum that some people shockingly mistake it for actual journalism and analysis.

It's not just sports media. That type of model is used for too much at present. What's even worse is when a portal site like Yahoo picks up an article from one of these places and puts it on their front page. Makes it look much more legitimate than it really should be.

Man... heard the Bob Davie interview this morning with Doug & Wolf... What a sad story about one of their linebackers - Donnie White, whose dad, a retired career military man, was shot and killed in a random shooting by a dude with an AK47 standing on an overpass... Shot into a car where he was a passenger. Here's the story: http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/...cle_5f07db73-e1fc-5eef-9bdc-8171dae1358f.html. Wow...

BOTTOM LINE
ASU's offense started slow last week against Weber State. That shouldn't be a problem Saturday. Kelly and Foster will get the Sun Devils out to a quick lead. Defensively, ASU will give up a couple big plays, but little more. This one never will be in jeopardy, a confidence-boosting effort the Sun Devils will take into Pac-12 action.

Prediction: ASU 58, New Mexico 17.

The prediction seems fair to me but I wouldn't be surprised if UNM is shut out.

I wonder why UNM put in the red shirt freshman in the first quarter?
