In any given game there are going to be good and bad plays and coaching decisions. I am okay with that - its the ebb and flow of the game. In hindsight you are right that was a risky spot to go for it but that late in the game, our defense was tired, and Marshall was starting to pick up chunks of yardage. Bill Belichek goes for it there too and non one questions his coaching acumen.

I consider ONE blocked PAT to be the ebb and flow of the game too. And we could have overcome that anyway. But TWO in twelve minutes? TWO? The fact that Stoops even had to consider going for two shows how bad Zendejas is at his job and I can't just say he "missed the kick" - he literally linedrived that last kick into the back of the lineman. Between the last two PATs and that EGREGIOUS out of bounds kick with 28 seconds left - Its almost like the kid was throwing the game. And they don't have those type of kicking issues in highschool let alone FBS football.

The team and coaches overcame that clown's ineptitude twice in the last minute. They couldn't do it a third time in OT.

It takes a team to lose but Foles and the D showed heart time and time again, only to have the most routine crap by a kicker foil them. I'm not sure how anyone can point the finger at anyone else.
It was a stupid spot to go for it, inexcusable call. Belichick doesn't go for it and is he does it's a QB sneak, not handing the ball to an 180lb running back seven yards behind the LOS. That was brutal. I just mentioned on another thread but his little flirtation with Matt Scott in the first half cost us points too.

Zendejas sucks but that's been an issue for a long, long time now. Stoops did not recruit a kicker this last offseason nor does he have one lined up for 2011. Nor did he ever make getting this kid better a priority this during the season when he has continually been shanking kicks.

So how again is this not on Stoops? How is someone who recruited every kid on the team including the kicker and was behind the game plan that gave the other team points on at least two occasions not responsible?

That is a really good picture, photography-wise. I would imagine that will end up in the Brooks' house somewhere.

Wonder if Coach Sendek should bring this guy over, too, with Osweiler. :p

It doesn't sound like a waiver is likely, but if it did happen, where could ASU end up as a bowl participant?

Question: I know Weber hasn't been great, but did we recruit a kicker for next season? I don't want us falling into USC's position.
/QUOTE]

Yes, he's redshirting this year. Its a kid from Brophy named Alex Garoutte, he also played DB in HS, so maybe he'll be relatively athletic for a kicker and be able to not be completely embarrassed when attempting a special teams tackle.

Here's a little blurb on him:

^Hey, Weber saved a huge return if I remember correctly last night. You're right, but all around great game for him.

And that's good to hear.

Really? Did you watch the game or this season?

Nope. What happened? Sagarin ratings had us as the 26th best team before the U of A game. We had a legitimate shot, if not should have beaten two top 5 teams. I don't think it's ridiculous at all to think ASU is a top 25 team. It's an absolute farce that they don't make the field of 70 teams going to a bowl game.

I'd also be wary in crowning this ASU team next year. You still have QB and WR issues.

I haven't crowned them anywhere. You're the one that said "As far as football goes, I think assuming they get the QB thing straightened out that ASU has a chance to win 9-10 games next year". That's certainly more "crowning" them than anything I've said. Unfortunately, our brutal schedule of last year becomes even more difficult next year. Either way, I'm cautiously optimistic.

As for the QB/WR issues, I'm less worried about those. Oz was awful for most of the night, but I think between him and Threet we'll be good enough to win with our defense. The entire O-line is coming back, and we have enough weapons on offense with Marshall, Lewis and Middlebrooks. Gerrell Robinson is also starting to play better.

Burfict is ridiculous. He literally carries that defense.

While it would be extremely impressive for him to literally carry the defense, I don't think he even does it figuratively. Burfict is a fantastic talent and dominated last night, but it's not like the rest of the D is a bunch of slouches. Guy is really good, Brooks had a great night, and Onyeali is showing promise as a pass rusher. Omar Bolden looks like he'll get a look in the NFL, and Magee is turning into a decent linebacker. Is Vontaze clearly the best player on defense? Of course, but I wouldn't say he carries the D.

Bonano is the one who kicked the ball off after the score that tied the game at 20.

What happened is that both teams proved on the field that they aren't very good. I heard the announcers were pretty much makign fun of both teams throughout the entire first half. In reality any team that finishes 4-5 in a weak Pac-10 (outside of top two teams) is not a top 25 team. The should have beaten two top 5 teams nonsense is canceled out by two facts: that you lost both games and you got beaten by pretty bad Oregon State and Cal teams. Sagarin is too reliant on SOS which is why you get UA as a top 20 team going into this week over an 11-1 Michigan State. UA will still probably be a top 25 team per Sagarin after this week and they're far from it.

They're okay. Guy and Onyeali are good but the secondary is average and whoever starts with Magee/Burfict is a non-factor. Brooks had a nice game last night but again was a non-factor most of the season. It all starts with Vontaze.

Did anybody else notice when they were coming back from a break they showed video of Tempe Town Lake?

Why do people keep mentioning the kicker? We lost the game when we gave ASU three points by deciding to go for it 4th and 1 at our own 25 yard line halfway through the fourth quarter. We punt it there and Foles in all likelihood drives us a winning TD and the XP is moot. Not to mention we have all known Zendejas (and our kicking game in general) has been all over the place this entire season and nothing has been done to rectify the situation. If you followed UA Football this year then Zendejas' miscue should not have come as a huge surprise. I won't even get into the horrendous playcalling that allowed ASU's inept offense to stay in the game in the first place.

Coaching lost this game, pure and simple.

Yep, as an ASU fan, I thought Stoops decision to go for it at that point was wacky. And, I much appreciated it.

I don't think you were paying very good attention. Brooks was responsible for both blocks, he hit both with his right hand. You can argue the kicks were a little low, but they weren't THAT low. And, Zendejas did not kick off, it was the kid with the Mafia name.

I don't think he lasts in Tucson more than two more seasons so soak him up while you can. Of course there has been an oft-rumored extension/raise but even then I bet he gets canned. 2011 is going to be an average season for UA and 2012 might get really bad.

Agreed. With more than 5 minutes left, it was an insane decision, I was shocked.

As with Mike Singletary in SF, I'm definitely happy with Stoops in Tucson. Hope he gets a nice fat extension.

Just as I'm pleased with Herb Sendek in Tempe. Eternal mediocrity is always where you want your rivals. Too good and they're kicking your ass, too poor and they could make changes for the better.

Not sure you saw all of the replays. On the second PAT, Zendejas hit it fat like a bad iron shot in golf, which f'd up the trajectory of the kick. Try and qualify it all you want but zendejas was the goat of the game.

Okay, I have to say this. The game was amazing. But, for me, nothing is sweeter than revenge. Going from picture one, where Zendejas kicked the game winner in Tempe and then proceeded to taunt and antagonize Burfict, to picture two where he is running off the field like a little you know what...CLASSIC.
