This is a point of contention I have w/ Miller's substitutions. Williams got on a roll in the first few minutes and then Kyryl subs in. Talk about a momentum killer. Jordan Hill did well last season playing nearly every minute of every game. What's to say Williams cant do the same?

The irony is that UCLA fans have been complaining all year about just the opposite, why is Howland not giving more time to the young guys even if it means more losses.

Of course in this case Williams is a freshman too, with UCLA we're talking seniors.

It'll pay off down the line for UA, I also think it allows Williams now to be a better player because he's had some foul trouble issues, fouled out 4 times, been to 4 at least twice more. By limiting his minutes Miller can let him play all out without fouling out.

No one has mentioned this yet, but it is important to point out what a thug/Dousche Kevin Parrom really is...

Just a classless kid.. Again after the buzzer showing just how "tough" he is by intentionally bumping Glasser... it wasn't anything big just a low classless move by a thug.. thats all...

And that went back to a few minutes earlier when he nearly knocked Glasser down when fouling him because he hooked his arm. Parrom is one of those kids if he's on your team you love him, on someone else's team you hate him. He plays hard, I guess compared to Hackett the last 3 years Parrom really doesn't bother me, at least not yet.

Parrom again:

As the final buzzer was about to sound in Arizona State’s 73-69 victory on Sunday, ASU senior point guard Derek Glasser was dribbling out the clock and threw the ball into the air. Parrom appeared to put a forearm into Glasser’s chest.

Glasser went after Parrom while both team formed the postgame hand-shake line, but was restrained by ASU coaches. Arizona coach Sean Miller immediately sent Parrom to the locker room while the two team’s shook hands.

After the game, Miller apologized to Glasser and ASU coach Herb Sendek.

Arizona State is now only a half-game out behind first-place Cal in the standings. An Arizona win at Cal combined with an Arizona State win at Stanford would give the Sun Devils sole possession atop the Pac-10 heading into a big game on Saturday at Haas Pavilion.

Thrilled about the win tonight, really hope ASU can somehow finish out the season on a run and finally get that 1st Pac 10 title, even if it is in a terrible year for the Pac 10.

Amazing that lowly Herb can even hope to compete against the "elite" school down south. 6 out of 7? Total fluke...

Yuk it up while you can. Miller is destroying Sendek on the recruting trail and five of those precious wins were against Kevin O'Neill and Russ Pennell.

Herb isn't lowly, he's just okay. Enjoy your annual first weekend flameouts and NIT trips, we'll just continue to aim higher. You've simply plateaued as a system program that wins but will never be great. Hope that's enough for you guys.

Hahaha. I like how you continue to say nonsense like this as if you repeat it enough it'll somehow become true.

Hows this upcoming class looking right now, is ASU getting 'destroyed'? ASU is bringing in the #1 player in Arizona and the #1 player in California (according to some sources or at least a very highly ranked one according to others).

Miller and Co were able to capitalize last year on the mess at SC and did a good job of being the new kids on the block but they've so far failed to follow up that class. Bajarano is a very good get but to say UA is "destroying" ASU on the recruiting trail is beyond laughably ignorant.

Sendek and Miller have gone head-to-head on four players. Miller has three (Bejerano, Kyryl, Derrick Williams), Sendek has one (Keala King). It'll be four when Arizona gets Nick Johnson. 3 out of 4 and looking like four out of five is beating the competition.

Haha sure thing champ. I don't care how it shakes out head to head as long as Sendek keeps up things the way they've been going. Right now ASUs 2010 class is vastly better than UAs.

Because it's got more quantity? Sean Miller could have taken commitments from many players but has held out as he only recruits kids he thinks have All-Conference or NBA futures. Sendek recruits for his system and not upside so he's got a lot deeper of a pool to choose from.

Arizona's not done in 2010 by the way and will have more room once they bounce some scrubs.

It does have more depth but Hawkins and King are better than Bajerano and Mayes.

Herbs class isn't necessarily done yet either, he's still got an (admittedly long) shot at Moses Abraham who's got just about every top school in the country coming after him though he appears to be a heavy Georgetown lean he'll be in Tempe for the USC game.

^But the recruiting services probably do a disservice to Hawkins since he doesn't play AAU.

Hows Bajerano looking qualifying wise? (honest question, I dont know, but Ive heard there could be issues).

To add to you point, Mao, its not like any of our freshman are going anywhere after this season and I certainly doubt they'll leave after their 2nd year. Along with the new top recruits coming in, we'll have experienced and hopefully matured individuals to help lead the way.

First point is incorrect, pretty sure Hawkins played AAU through the summer of 2008 and just didn't play this last year. Scouts have seen him, there just isn't a consensus view of his future.

DB will be fine. I think we all should realize at this point that you pretty much have to not want to go to school to not be admitted.

Youre right he did play some AAU ball when he was younger, but Scouting services often update/change rankings and such as a kid grows and since he hasn't played AAU recently that certainly didn't help his cause with places like Scout and Rivals.

If I had to guess based on the stuff Ive seen and read I'd maybe rank recent ASU wing players like this coming out of HS:

1. Harden
2. King
3. Hawkins
4. Lockett
5. Abbott

With Hawkins just barely nudging out Lockett. Perhaps those slots are interchangeable, Lockett certainly has a size advantage which will him project to the next level. Though Corey is about the same size as his Dad and he did just fine in the league.

Visiting Indiana now too, apparently he was impressed that their coach flew in a private jet to see him.

No feel at all for that recruitment.

He's playing in Maryland for HS so I assume G'Town has got the inside track, scouting services also list his interest there as 'high' and everywhere else as 'medium' though those are pretty notoriously inaccurate.

I don't think ASU has much of a chance, but who knows, maybe if ASU sweeps the Nor Cal schools and comes home with the Pac 10 title either locked up or close and beats SC w/ WFA rockin', maybe it'll do wonders.

In my opinion you're way underrating Abbott and way overrating Lockett and Hawkins. Plenty of scouts have seen Hawkins play, it's not like there's no film on him anywhere whether it be at the AAU (played AAU after his sophomore season which is when initial rankings come out) or high school level. Ty as a freshman on a better team and against a much, much better Pac-10 was also putting up better numbers than Lockett currently is and they're not even close defensively. You also should put a giant asterik next to Harden because there's a Grand Canyon sized difference between #1 and #2 on your list. Players like Harden only come around once a generation.

Trent Lockett plays 10 minutes less a game than Abbott did his freshman year b/c ASU has more capable players now then they did when Ty was a Frosh.

Ty Abott Fr year
Min.........PPG.....APG....RPG......FG%.....PPS
32.7.......9.9.......1.5.....3.6.......392......1.18

Trent Lockett Fr Year
Min........ PPG......APG.....RPG.....FG%....PPS
21.5....... 7.6.......0.9......3.6......490.....1.43

So in 10 minutes less Trent is putting up the same number of rebounds, 2 points less (1 bucket), half a rebound less, but shooting 10 percentage points higher and scoring more points per shot. Part of that shooting percentage of course is that Ty took more 3's and Trent is more of a mid range guy, but he's still been far more efficient.

I love Ty, but Trents got more of an upside and is bigger and more athletic than Ty.
