If you read this board, please resign Leonard Davis!!! I know he sometimes
false starts, blows a few assignments but he is really needed back in 2007.
Does he make alot of money, yes. This line has been shuffled and rebuilt for
five straight years. The last six games they have played very well, including
Leonard. Sign him for one year or five years, but keep this line in tact. Davis
is the best lineman on this team. Sign someone else and we still pay the $$.
Draft a rookie and we start all over and endanger our future star QB.
SIGN LEONARD DAVIS, tell him you want him back, today!

LD is not needed. Yes he is likely our best OL. I agree it would be stuuuupid to let him go with zero compensation. However it would be far from a doomsday event if LD never plays in a cardinal uni ever again.

Nobody is going to give 1 or two first rounders for him either, You guys better set your sights lower on the compensation end.

Maybe I have missed it but who has ever mentioned a 1st or 2 1st rounders.

I am the biggest proponent of a trade should be very easy considering the offseason circumstances, and I dont even think a 1st would happen.

Didn't LD completely shut down the best pass rusher in the league yesterday?
The only time I remember Merriman getting a hand on the QB was when he
beat Wells.

Dont have the time to look back and research it but I have read people on here saying that the compensation is 2 first rounders if we tag him like it would happen but nothing specifically saying so. More of astrong suggestion.

I have most certainly read people say that we could get a 1st before along with other picks.

He catually played well against him. But he has also been burned many times by some nobodys. So really whats the point? LJ Shelton used to play well against some of the better pass rushers in the league.

Losing LD will not be some doomsday event. It just wont.

Losing LD may not be a doomsday event. However losing LD without compensation and praying that you can find someone his equal in the draft is asking for a doomsday event

LD has more talent in his BIG TOE than Shelton had in his whole body. And

I think this year proved that it really wouldnt be that much of a chore getting a quality OT in the draft. If Thomas is there for the taking I would pull the trigger and let Davis go for the best trade I could get and never look back.

Absolutely. Not easy for any team to find good starting OL. The guy may not be pro bowl but we have bigger needs. Can't afford to screw with this.

Everyone is saying, even you apparently, that we shouldn't just let him walk. If we could trade and draft Joe Thomas everyone could live with that. But, local reports are indicating that he will NOT be tagged or re-signed.

Nobody knows what this team will do until the the date comes to tag or not to tag. Why worry about pure speculation?

and the chances of Thomas being there at 5 aren't very good

What about maintaining the possible budding of chemistry among this group Shane? Shouldn't we also consider the importance of preserving that? Chemistry cannot be bought or sold. It is an intangible.

I wish there was a way to check the stats of olineman. LD played at a
differant level from the time Matt Leinart was inserted into the starting lineup.
Penalties were down and the running game and pass protection steadily
improved. LD was playing at near Pro Bowl level. Maybe Denny finally got it
right with the oline.

Maybe that had to do with the fact the wasn't protecting Matt's blind side anymore? At least Matt was able to see the rusher coming and get outta the way.

So, what's the financial difference in resigning Davis or drafting Thomas at 5?

Such certainty.

I'll take your word for it, especially since we have (xxxxxxx) to step in a left tackle. Looking forward to it, (xxxxxxxxx) is certainly an upgrade and cheaper too.

Signing Davis to a long term deal will cost the same or only just a little bit more then what a #5 draft pick will cost.

In terms of franchise tag versus first year cap hit of a #5 draft pick Davis would caost over 11 and a #5 draft pick would cost half that. Which doesnt really matter since we wont be able to use all of our cap spcae anyways.

That being said, then staying with the known is usually better than risking the unknown.

In other words, if the $$ is similar, stay with Davis...we already know is shortcomings and can coach to those.

Whatever they do with Big, I want the new coach to decide it, not Rod Graves.
