Anybody notice Ayton gets a handful of his rebounds from multiple attempt tip ins? I think he got 3 in one possession late in the game.

In those instances he’s so physically superior he should just go up, grab it and throw it down. That’s what the greats did.

The old Moses Malone trick when he was at Philly! He has three putbacks before making the basket on almost every offensive rebound chance. The announcers used to accuse him of padding his stats!

I get the frustration with not attacking the rim, I'm right there too. But I don't see how his defense, this year so far, is getting ripped. We're soooooo much better on D when he is in the game, to the tune of nearly 10 points per 100 possessions better, a massive margin. He has been smothering penetration, altering shots and has been able to cover guys all over the court.

I haven’t seen much in the way of criticism of his defense this year.

My guess is that when I'm given 20 to 30 game sample and that will change. In his first 5..... he looked as good as the team did in their first 5 or so games of the season.

When Ayton plays pf his defense looks better.

Disagree. In the first half of last game they had Ayton defending the outside and Baynes on the inside, we were a mess on D, in the 2nd half when they went back to the lineup their roles were reversed and we dominated that stretch of the game.

I think he means individually. His D on the perimeter stands out because of his quick feet, whereas it appears he struggles at times defending the rim. However, as a team, we may be better off with him on the interior as his sheer size can cause opponents problems and he's in better position for rebounds

If Ayton "sorta sucks", what does that mean for Cam Johnson and Ty Jerome?...

Ayton so far hasn't lived up to his potential but he most definitely doesn't suck. Not even close.

And then...

Look the fact that a neophyte fan watching games live could recognize things like motor, confidence, and heart and the Sun's didn't or refused to accept the criticism (yeah looking at you Sarver) explains why this team is no closer to relevance after a damn decade

What is it mean if all our draft picks either sorta suck or really suck?
Yeah if Ayton sucks and bridges is maxed out and cam is a limited shooter we only really have a lucky book to show for all our terrible years. Man is that atrocious.

To put it more into perspective, there are 4 players on the current roster that were on the game 1 roster last year. Booker, Ayton, Bridges and Okobo. That's it

It's why I give James jones some slack so far. He had nothing to work with

And a year later, in terms of players worth anything, he has added only Oubre (by accident, and only for one more season after this one) and Rubio (by default) to that mix and has given up a future first round pick in the process. He has given us even less to work with heading into the future, and another wasted year...

Well, he didn't do himself any favors by trading TJ Warren (currently 2nd leading scorer on a playoff team), #6, and #32 for Saric and Cam Johnson.

I believe this team needs to make a better effort at giving Ayton the ball. Ayton needs to be averaging at least 18 shots a game. If he gets going, then it opens the inside out game, which allows guys like Cam and Oubre open looks.

Look I like Book scoring 40 ... but man get the big man involved. If one didn't know anything about the Suns...they would think Ayton was a Role player the way they use him.

Come on Monty! Get him the damn ball. Enough with jacking up contested 3 after 3.

Regarding Ayton based on my 3rd row viewing tonight - he doesn't suck. He is just isn't going to be as physical as a guy his size should be. It's frustrating but the signs were there at UofA and with his personality. But he runs the floor well, can switch on to smaller defenders, and body up larger players. If you want him to be Shaq it just ain't happening.

Best thing for him would be to stretch out his shot or play him with a true stretch 4 so he can rim run. The Baynes-Ayton lineups just don't work offensively from a spacing and/or playmaking standpoint.

I didn't say he was flawless or anything close. I'm just saying he wasn't given much to begin with so he gets some slack

Or, worse, TJ Warren, #6, #32 and a future first round pick for Saric, Cam Johnson, Ty Jerome and three weeks of an effective Aron Baynes.

Not when moves he makes are even worse than those that resulted in us not having much to begin with, and when his few good moves (Oubre instead of Brooks and Rubio instead of Rozier) were accidents where he was basically saved from himself.

I won't argue with that. Doncic should have been the pick. It's these guys' jobs to pick the right guy.
