I somewhat agree. To me its not that he just doesn’t care. I think its more of he thinks his game is already there (when its not).
Yeah, there is certainly a combination of not trying at times, but also other times where he seems more lost than lazy. He has skills, but he lacks in some areas that would make it easier for him to play well every night.

He's just an enigma.

Now that he is on another team I think it's best we all just stop trying to figure him out, well I will anyway because I am tired of trying to.
I think a lot of people are overthinking.

Outside of one awesome 4 week stretch in the 2021 playoffs, it’s been clear who Ayton was from his first game against Dallas his rookie year.

The real enigma to me has been people not being able to see it for so long.

If he didn’t like the offense with CP3 and Book he’ll hate playing with Simons, Sharpe and Scoot. Grant also took 15 shots a game last year and that was with Lillard taking a ton of shots. The best fit for him would’ve been a team without chucking guards like New Orleans.

I almost feel bad for Blazer fans. They're stuck with Ayton and Grant for the next 3 years, at least. Grant is the forward version of Ayton. Tons of talent, no drive. Rather put up empty stats than win on a contender. He couldn't wait to get out of Denver, who replaced him with Aaron Gordon and AG bought in 100%. Meanwhile Grant was in Detroit and now Portland just chucking up shots, playing no defense, and thinking he deserves the contract he got.

Yep. He’s been the same player since his rookie season. I think a lot of fans got a renewed hope from that 2021 playoff run unfortunately.

I held out hope up until last year, mostly because his defense had gotten better every year until then. I didn't buy into any of the fools gold from last season though, and despite again having some great stretches his defense really seemed to regress from the 60 win season.

Yeah his disappointing defense since the finals run was my biggest complaint about him. I'd reconciled myself with his lack of aggression on offense but it was survivable as long as he was fully committed to defense. And I had hope that with Monty gone and Vogel in place that his defensive attention would resurface. No confidence that it would, just hope. Now though, I can invest my "hoping" energy on Nurkic staying healthy.

I'm just relived, not our problem anymore.
It kind of feels like you broke up with a girlfriend.
If that girlfriend was Kathy Bates from Misery

Maybe Deandre Ayton should have remained silent.

He really should take some of his contract and hire a publicist to give him some media training. "Could've been worse"...really? Sounds like he's tossing shade at the Blazers organization.

LOL… “it could have been worse to where I was traded”. Good gravy. This kid’s the trifecta… heartless, brainless and clueless.
