Offensive Coordinator Harold Goodwin on Bobby Massie:

“Bobby is a guy who has to make a decision on how good he wants to be,” Goodwin said. “There are plenty of guys walking around these halls with talent. He’s got to make the decision to be great. Bobby is another guy who’s had some mental error issues in the past. I’m not going to put Carson (Palmer) in danger. He’s already got enough to deal with. You’ve got to know what you’re doing. If you know what you’re doing, that’s really three-quarters of the battle.
“It’s his third year. This is a make-or-break year definitely for him.”

I am officially off the Bobby Massie bandwagon.

If the guy doesn't want to put in the time, then I thank him for the hard work he put in for the 2012 season, but as it correctly stated above. "There are plenty of guys walking around these halls with talent."

And I am always wary of players who "turn the corner" in their contract year. And I am speculating here, but was there ANY progress in this area over last season ? Or did Massie just sulk about it? I dunno, that is pure speculation on my part.

In my fantasy land world where my madness lives, I am currently pencilling in Bradley Sowell (I know K9 and a few others gonna love that :D ) as the starting right tackle for next season, unless "door #2" comes with a better option like Eric Winston.

Final Note: I love how blunt Harold Goodwin is, in this article. Tells it like it is. That may not work for some people, but for people like me, I thrive on that kind of honesty. If I am not good enough at what I am doing, just tell me, don't ***** foot around about it.

Yeah, in a draft tread I was wondering how Massie is progressing this off season. He's needed to have to made a commitment to growing his game to where it's really about going out there producing and not thinking about it, because of all the preparation he's put in. That's really what it's all about. Not just grinding it out relying on talent alone. You need that and the preparation down pat. To where your at the point it just flows.

Door #4 (that being the EXIT door) is going to play a big role with the O-Line in 2014 . Last season everything was brand new , and they had to just throw some things together and figure it out as they go . This season , they have a clearer picture of what they have , and what they need . The O-Linemen not named Veldheer or Cooper should carry a picture of door #4 around with them the entire off-season .

Arians and Goodwin have been constant in their praise of Sowell’s effort and fight. But there was little question there was going to be an attempt at an upgrade, which is why the team moved as quickly as it did on Veldheer.

“I feel a lot more confident today than I did when Bradley was there at left tackle,” Goodwin added. “Not that Bradley (was bad). Bradley’s Bradley. Now he’s got a chance to compete at right tackle.”

Sowell might not end up being the starter at RT but he might end up making the team while Massie gets cut.

I think we are starting to see the reason that Massie dropped from a potential 2nd Round pick to the 4th round. There was definitely some tough love going on with Massie and Ryan Williams last year. I'm curious to see the results this year. It feels like the results for both are going to be the waiver wire.

Well we have been waiting to hear about how Massie was being looked at by the coaching staff and here it is.

Sad part is that he has the talent, but seems unwilling to put in the work. Hopefully he wakes up and decides to commit himself.

We may be drafting a tackle and/or bringing in another vet.

I want to draft defense but let's get this dang line fixed already. I get all excited talking about making a defense even better but the right side of our OL is not even freaking average. If this means drafting a player like Martin, then do it and be done with this

On one of the videos posted on the Cards website, Urban and co. stated that Massie was probably the most talented O-line man on the roster. It was the only time I've heard praise thrown in Massie's direction from the team in quite some time. Made me think that RT is his job to lose.

Sounds to me like Massie is a mental midget. He's plenty talented enough, but just can't handle the mental side of the game.

Some guys can translate the board to the field quickly, others need the reps to learn. ,

As long as he gets there.

Where does it say that he isn't putting in the time? I'm not sure how I feel about him one way or another. I honestly think the 3/5 of our line could be improved. (Cooper and Veldeer excluded) I just don't know if I am down on him yet.

Well, this isn't too shocking. Massie's issues in college were that he didn't play up to his talent level. He wasn't dominant physically when he should have been at that is poor weight training. Last year he was given a chance to become the starting RT and he made too many mistakes to hold his spot. This isn't a new problem and I am not holding my breath waiting for Massie to get it. He will or he will be off the team.

In the middle of draft season, this should remind everyone that players drop for a reason. Sometimes taking a guy later than expected should be a red flag rather than a bargain buy.

I can only put the word "speculation" in the post so many times before it sounds funny to me.

No where does it say Massie is not putting in the time. Pure speculation on my part based on what I have read and seen (playing time wise) over the last year or so.

I don't think it's that at all. It's just that I jinxed Massie by talking about how good he looked in 2012. :D

Dark horse candidate if the Cards trade down...Brandon Thomas - Clemson. He would be an ideal fit for the Cards at RT and I know the Cards are looking at him. It could just be if he slips to them in the second round, but that is looking less likely.

Family member of a coach.

Again, I just know he fits what they are looking for in terms of feet, physicality, and versatility. I know they are interested in him, but I can't say for sure if that means 1st round, trade back option in first round or second round or below. Also, this was around the start of free agency, so I can't say if their board has adjusted though I doubt it has regarding RT.

I don't believe he will be available in round 2 when the Cardinals pick and may not make it out of round 1. Because of that, he probably is more likely if the Cards move down in the draft. I think #20 is too high.

He played OT, but people thought because of his height he would have to play OG despite good college film. Then the post season workouts began and he showed well at Senior Bowl, measured near 35" arms at combine, and showed very good athleticism.

Teams are now very comfortable with the idea of him playing OT & OG, with even some considering him as a LT option.

If you watch his clips vs South Carolina, it is hard not to be impressed.
