In the remote sands of the Moroccan desert, a rifle shot rings out--detonating a chain of events that will link an American tourist couple’s frantic struggle to survive, two Moroccan boys involved in an accidental crime, a nanny illegally crossing into Mexico with two American children and a Japanese teen rebel whose father is sought by the police in Tokyo. Separated by clashing cultures and sprawling distances, each of these four disparate groups of people are nevertheless hurtling towards a shared destiny of isolation and grief. In the course of just a few days, they will each face the dizzying sensation of becoming profoundly lost--lost in the desert, lost to the world, lost to themselves--as they are pushed to the farthest edges of confusion and fear as well as to the very depths of connection and love.

Cast and Credits
Starring: Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, Gael Garcia Bernal, Elle Fanning, Koji Yakusho
Directed by: Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu
Produced by: Steve Golin, Jon Kilik, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu

This looks really good. It’s out only in limited release until Nov 10. Hopefully it picks up at the box office when it’s released nationwide, since I own this one in the fantasymoguls movie game.

Movie was very disappointing. It was boring. I could've cared less about the storylines except for the Pitt/Blanchett/Moroccan kids and that wasn't too great anyway.

Performances by Blanchett, the little Moroccan kid, and the kid's dad were the only bright spots for me in this film.

Waste of my $5 rental fee.

I just watched it. I loved the tag-line: “If you want to be understood….Listen”. I thought it was a great thought-provoking film. I paid close attention to the musical score, since it won an Oscar. Very well deserving. I really liked the movie and will probably watch it again someday.

This movie didn't do it for me. Unlike Crash, these story lines were harder to follow and make sense of. Some of the performances were good, but the movie as a whole could've been done better, IMO. Maybe it was the editing...???

As an editor, I have to say a bunch of stuff could have been cut out (mostly the over-extended slow pieces), but all in all, it was a fabulous movie. Very intelligent and NOTHING like the slam-bang stuff that most people flock to like sheep. This is not a movie to turn your brain off on.

I loved the Japanese girl--she absolutely deserved that Oscar nom. And to think, their was a bunch of confusion about why she got nominated. The proof is right there on screen. I thought she did an excellent job of playing a deaf-mute. Not many actors/actresses can pull that off convincingly and she definitely did.

Im not trying to speak for anyone but myself.. But I dont think movies should be anything but entertainment.. They are movies, not meant to teach me something.. And definitly the actors/directors/or whoever wins an award for a movie should get up and preach to me.. Your just an entertainer dude.. The self worth of some of these actors is appaulling to me.. And if a movie feels the need to cram down some kinda life lesson down my throat I toss it right out the dvd player into the trash.. Entertain me man.. I have enuff crap in my life to worry about on a daily basis to worry about what some coke heads skewed mind came up for me to watch..

Guess this is why I hate Hollywood so much.. Their uppity ways while getting DUI's and coke habits.. But hey, give them a national stage, then theyll tell you how you should live your life and how to treat others..

Screw that, I aint on drugs ya freak .. And I wasnt aware that when I pressed play on my dvd player it was anvenue for you to tell me how to live.. You are there to be entertainment..

So to sum it all up, I wont be watching Babel.. lol

I'll pick this up. I'm sure I'll like this and my wife wants to watch it too.

It's funny to read the mixed reviews of a movie like this. I guess it all depends on what you expect to get out of it. I try not to have any expectations before watching anything, in fact often I don't even know what the movie is about until I start watching, like in this case.

With that in mind, I have to say this was an amazing film. Very captivating and moving. There was one particular memorable sequence with the Asian girl going to the club that was absolutely mesmerizing. I didn't know this movie won an Oscar for best music, but I remember thinking during that sequence that they did an amazing job with the sound.

I felt the Japanese storyline was by far the most compelling one. I did like the way they werre able to tie all the seemingly disparate stories into one. I felt the border crossing segment was a bit heavy handed, and I felt the Moroccan family was excellent. Overall, a b+

I thought the Japanese story line was the worst part of the story.

No doubt, the work they did with the musical score pushed this film over the top for me.
