At their last practice before Sunday's Game 1, the Suns insisted they didn't feel additional pressure.

And to prove the point, all anyone had to do was point to guard Leandro Barbosa, who practiced Saturday with, of all things, a low-cut Mohawk.

“The team always does something (for unity),'' Barbosa said, smiling as he prepared to tell the story.

Apparently, the team had a discussion Friday about unity and someone brought up mustaches.

“Let's do something different,'' Barbosa said.

“Like what?'' his teammates asked.

“Something with our hair.”

“Like what?”

“A Mohawk.”

“No, nobody will do that,'' Shawn Marion said.

“I will,'' Barbosa responded.

“Let's bet,'' Marion said.

So this morning Barbosa went to the barbershop before practice, lost his locks – and maybe his dignity.

“I show up and (Marion) couldn't believe it,'' Barbosa said. “Everyone was laughing.''

Did Marion pay up?

“He didn't pay me,'' Barbosa said. “But whatever. It was a fun time.”

Said Marion, grinning: “I don't owe nobody any money.”

Marion was planning to get his haircut after practice, but he told reporters not to count on anything drastic.

“I ain't coming with no Mohawk - or a suspect Mohawk at that,” he said.

As for Barbosa, he's having second thoughts. As of early Saturday afternoon, his girlfriend hadn't seen his new cut. Nor had his mother.

“I don't' know,'' he said, thinking about the long-term effects of his decision. “ I might go take it off right now.”

The Valley so low.
Does a Mowhawk have to be done with a mower? Are we talking feather removal--and if so, from where?

Kidnapping JJ or anyone else from Atlanta would not be wise--no suspensions during the playoffs, please.

I really like Barbosa and the enthusiasm he brings to the Suns. He is all about the team... Mohawk and all. I like how he is not afraid to take a step out on a limb by himself. This young man's confidence has really grown since he first joined the Suns.

i don't know why, but for some reason this story made me breathe a little easier heading into the playoffs, especially with a historically tough Lakder matchup. And I just continue to buy more and more into Leo being a guy who can and will step up his game as he continues to get older. I have this feeling he's just gonna be huge in the playoffs.

Speaking of stepping it up...

I have a feeling Amare's vertical is back to 100%. I think D'antoni has just been telling him not to go 100% in this first regular season he's been back. There are flashes (when he gets upset mostly) of the old Amare in a few plays this year. One of the more popular was when he dunked on/over Atlantas Josh Smith. Watch for him to not only be jumping over people again, but to be shooting that 18 footer he perfected this year in the eye of whoever is guarding him.

The whole team should do mohawks......Amare could rock it. As long as it doesn't look like this:

ringthebell, if no one has welcomed you to ASFN, I do so now. I disagree on Amare's vertical. It will never again be what it was several years ago.

Did you see the vid? Sure looked the same as dunking on Kandiman.

Amare showed that athleticism plenty times. I just think what he does a lot better now is to pick more carefully when to use it. Before he would jump as high as he could to dunk on someone everytime, now he is going to the layup if it is the better option or the not-so fancy stuff.

He said he needed 4 more inches months ago. I'm sure he already did or will get that back eventually.

This says different, and hes probably still not even at 100% just yet.

Just look how high he gets on a shot he blocks at 1:10 in this vid.

Next year with a full offseason of rest he'll be better than he was in 2005.

So i don't think hes lost his vertical, but he hasnt gotten all of his cat like quickness back yet but that should return as his knees keep getting stronger and his body gets the much needed and deserved rest thats coming after we win the Title and he gets to relax all summer.

Man that 360 layup he did at around 3mins into the video against the Sixers was one of the sickest things ive ever seen him do. :notworthy

I think Amare has moments when he jumps as high as ever, but there are more moments when he should but doesn't.

If anything, I think the problem is the "power" of his jumps rather than the height (I'm not sure this makes physiological sense). Opponents are grabbing and hacking more than ever, but it seems the only way he can get a call from under the basket is if he scores. No score, no foul.

Some of it is that he doesn't make his power jump with both hands on the ball, so he is too easily stripped. This may be part of his last few percentages of returning to full force or it may be something he needs to work on over the summer.

Holy crap, that idea is so darn absurd, I don't even think Amare would say that. :)

Amare is as "back" as he has been all season. He's not the player he used to be, he may never be, and yet he's still pretty good. That's it. It's not a conspiracy.
