The drama has TNT analyst and Suns Ring of Honor member Charles Barkley lashing out at D'Antoni.

"Mike D'Antoni wants to leave, and he don't have the (guts) to resign," Barkley said on Dan Patrick's radio show Wednesday. "He wants them to fire him. He wants to get paid and get another job. He wants to get his cake and eat it, too. He's trying to hold them hostage. He knows he's going to get another job. He wants the Suns to fire him so he can get that $9 million they owe him.

"If he had any (guts) whatsoever, he'd say, "You know what? I don't want to be here,' but he wants them to fire him so he can get paid and get another job."

D'Antoni is beginning to act like a petulant child in response constructive criticism from his bosses. Can anyone argue the Suns don't need to concentrate on defense a little more? Is that unseasonable?

He makes a lot, but he spends a lot too.

:lmao:

Classic.

Judges would have also accepted, ''Why would I want to help them win a title? They're not doing anything for me. I'm at risk. I have a lot of risk here. I got my family to feed.''

Players suck up guaranteed contracts when they dont play or contribute, they never resign. Happens all the time, they get injured and cant play well, so they sit around and suck up the money while doing nothing. Im betting that charles' last contract was nothing but sucking that cash from the team ownership while eating pizzas and getting fat. Damn these former players can be some pretty pathetic hypocrites. Many players have been paid more than 9M for doing nothing but lay around at some point in their careers.

Has anyone considered that later in the season our defense was as good as it will ever be with the people we have? After watching the Jazz and Hornets horrible defense I've learned that we were better than people realize. However the Jazz and Hornets are a li'l better offensively and sometimes on the boards and that's what can set them apart.

Oh and Dantoni' (heh) will never get his 9 million from cheapskate Sarver.

The same can be said about the Suns, they don't have any balls or they would just fire him. The Suns are being cheap and trying to let someone take them off the hook. They could just sack up and fire him if they don't want him! Yeah its Mikes' fault he don't want to quit and leave 8.5 on the table, thats just stupid.

Exactly....If Kerr and Sarver really wanted DA to stay like they are spinning it in the media, they would work something out. This is just another tactic for Sarver to save money by not firing him and trying to make himself be seen in the media as the 'good guy' for letting DA talk to other teams because HE wants to leave. It's all a bunch of crap. If I were DA, I don't think I would resign and give up 8.5 million either. I know he will land another job, but I wouldn't make it easy to let Sarver off the hook.

If I were DA and sarver prevented me from even talking to the raptors, I'd try to make him eat the salary as well, its the only thing DA has on the sarver group. The suns have been one of the most profitable teams(sarver understands profits, right?) in the NBA during DA's tenure, largely due to the style DA implemented, he's earned his payday, at least in terms of $arvers true goals as a businessman. This is all about power, and dislocation of it in big corporate america.

I have to side with D'Antoni here. I mean why would you walk away from guaranteed money? The example with players posted above is about non-guaranteed money. If D'Antoni does nothing it is money in the pocket. He would be stupid to give that up.

D'Antoni is doing the right thing for himself by letting this play out. Not to mention it gives him another bargaining chip to say hey...if I sit out I am getting X. The Suns as usual are trying to limit their costs by not having the balls to say we are done goodbye. Sarver and Kerr both know that D'Antoni is not coming back. They both know that D'Antoni doesn't want to be here.

So this is more the the Suns trying to save money then it is D'Antoni being wrong for giving up guaranteed money.

Antoni have the balls to quit, but $arver too cheap to fire him.

Prime example for the $arver is cheap bid.

Who in their right mind would walk away from $9 million guaranteed?

Alas, $arver is about to be bailed out of that quandry anyway.

I think this is getting way blown out of proportion. Why would people default to assuming he is a coward than to think his transition to his new job is being facilitated by SarvKerr?

I hate Antoni, but the last thought on my mind is that he is lollygagging because he wants the rest of his cash from phoenix. He is just trying to sweeten the pot for his next job, that isnt unreasonable at all.

$8.5 million is still $8.5 million. If I am Sarver and I know D'Antoni is going to be signing with another team why give him what is essentially free and unearned money? Yes it is all a big game, but if D'Antoni is going to working for someone else next year, let them pay him. It doesn't sound like Sarver's being cheap to me.

I agree with this. If D'Antoni wants to hold the Suns hostage, then we hold him hostage. With D'Antoni as a coach next year, we'll get 36 wins as we'll attract no FAs, the players will have no confidence in him, and he'll be half-assing it. His allure will diminish and his suitors will look elsewhere. It's not smart on Mike's part to play Russian Roullette with his "legacy"....

^Ridiculous, right this Suns team with Dantoni will only get 36 wins, thats just dumb. The Dantoni hate on this board is just absurd. If anyone thinks a new coach is gonna come in and win more games than Dantoni with the current players is being nieve.
