Greenville girls 10
Anna 5
The Greenville Lady Lions recognized three seniors and then ended a lengthy district losing streak with a 10-5 softball victory over Anna on Tuesday at Monty Stratton Field.
Before the game the Lady Lions honored seniors Ashlee Robison, Carli Scarbrough and Kynna Rhoden, who were joined by family members on the field.
The the Lady Lions took care of business beating Anna for their first District 9-5A win of the season. They snapped a 35-game district losing streak that dated back to a 16-6 win over Highland Park on April 19, 2022.
“These kids have heart,” said Lady Lions coach Caitlyn Fowler. “They play for each other. We’ve got the talent. We’ve got to put it together. When we put it together that’s what happens.”
Greenville pitcher Brookelyn Waldrop started strong with a couple of strikeouts in the first inning and limited Anna to four earned runs in seven innings. Waldrop allowed 10 hits and three walks while striking out six.
“Brookelyn puts a lot of pressure on herself,” said Fowler. “When she has outings like this it gives her confidence.”
Rhoden, who played first base, led the Lady Lions with two hits, two runs and two runs batted in.
Moe Scott had a hit, scored two runs and drove in two runs for the Lady Lions. Waldrop also had a hit and drove in two runs. London Hawkins had a hit and drove in two runs. McKenzie Scarbrough had a hit, a run and an RBI.
Robison, Merci Tippit and Carli Scarbrough scored runs.
Tippit turned a double play when she made a running catch in centerfield and threw to second base to double off an Anna runner.
Emily Lozano and Gabby Godiez slugged homers for Anna.
Fowler said the Lady Lions played well as a steam.
“Smart, aggressive baserunning,” she said. “Timely hits. Solid defense.”
This was the last home game on the schedule for the Lady Lions, whose next game is on Friday at Denison. They’re also scheduled to play at Lucas Lovejoy on April 15 and at McKinney North on April 17.

Pitchers Easton Slagle and Ethan Musil limited Denison to only one unearned run in the Greenville Lions’ 2-1 District 9-5A baseball victory at John Mason Field.
Slagle gave up five hits, four walks and no runs in 5 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts. Denison scored an unearned run in the sixth as Musil did not allow a hit or walk in 1 2/3 innings with two strikeouts.
Denison pitcher Brad Smith limited the Lions to five hits and two earned runs. Smith walked one and fanned six.
Slagle and Caleb Yost doubled to lead the Lions at the plate. Yost also scored and Slagle drove in a run.
Caden Musil singled and scored for the Lions, who also picked up hits from Ethan Musil and Bryce Samples.
The Lions improved to 13-11 for the season and 4-5 in District 9-5 play as they remained in contention for a playoff spot.
“We won a close game finally,” said Lions coach Jeromy Slagle. “We’ve lost six or seven one-run games. We put it together in the end.”
The Lions are to continue the two-game series at Denison on Friday.
Royse City 9
North Forney 1
FORNEY — Royse City scored three runs in the fifth inning and three in the sixth to break away for a 9-1 District 10-6A baseball win over North Forney.
Royse City pitchers Peyton Peoples and Brayden Thrash combined to limit North Forney to five hits and one earned run. Peoples pitched six scoreless innings, allowing only two hits and one walk with nine strikeouts. Thrash struck out two in an inning in relief.
Joseph Dingman slugged three hits, including a home run to lead Royse City at the plate. He drove in two runs.
Peoples drove in three runs and Harrison Hickey and Matteas Green both scored two runs for the Bulldogs.

ROCKWALL — Rockwalll-Heath held off the Royse City Lady Bulldogs for a 3-2 District 10-6A softball win on Tuesday.
Jade Bryant led Royse City at the plate with two hits and a run. Bri Duffey doubled.
Royse City pitcher Abby Mangrum allowed six hits, one walk and two earned runs with eight strikeouts.

CADDO MILLS — Caddo Mills capitalized on 13 hits, eight walks and two errors to whip Wills Point 16-1 in District 13-4A baseball.
Caddo Mills pitchers Jayton Mulkey and Ryan Pruitt limited Wills Point to four hits and one earned run. Mulkey struck out five in 3 2/3 innings and Pruitt fanned two in 1 1/3 innings.
Bobby Barrow and Colt Ponton tripled to lead the Caddo Mills hitters. Ponton drove in four runs and scored four runs. Cesar Cantu drove in five runs and pounded three hits.

FARMERSVILLE —Caddo Mills rallied fron a 2-0 deficit in the first inning to overtake Farmersville 4-2 in District 13-4A softball.
Caddo Mills pitcher Makenna Daniels struck out eight as she allowed seven hits, two walks and two earned runs with eight strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings. Kyleigh Bentley rcorded the last out for the save.
Taylor Allen homered and doubled for the Lady Foxes. Sasha Nerkowski and Jacee Morel both tripled and Nevaeh Fehr doubled.
Emaleigh Sweeden and Bella Holland doubled for Farmersville.

QUINLAN — Payton Perez struck out 11 as Quinlan Ford claimed a 5-3 District 13-4A softball win over Community.
Lillie Walls and Alexis Earls doubled for Ford.
Lyla Whitt and Caycee Patterson doubled for Community.

EMORY — The Rains Wildcats shut out Commerce 10-0 in District 12-3A baseball.
Rains pitcher Gage Cook allowed only two hits, singles by Jordan McMurray and Austin Cook. The Wildcat pitcher struck out seven.
David Springer led Rains at the plate with two hits.

Rains pitcher Greenlee Moore limited Commerce to three hits and slammed a double.

WINNSBORO — Winnsboro clubbed Lone Oak 11-1 in District 12-3A baseball.
Winnsboro pitcher Ethan Arrington fired a two-hitter. He walked one and struck out seven.

MERIT — Bland swept Saltillo in a District 12-2A softball doubleheader, winning 10-1 and 15-0.
Brookelyn Boren-Floyd struck out 12 and allowed five hits, two walks and an unearned run in the 15-0 victory.
Zoe Wilson and Natalyn Luper doubled and tripled to lead Bland at the plate. Sadie Soto tripled. Zoey Lawson and Makila Watson slugged doubles.
Soto pitched a one-hitter in the 15-0 victory, striking out five in three innings.
Watson hit a triple and Wilson, Luper and Lawson doubled.

CELESTE — North Hopkins opened a two-game District 12-2A softball series with Celeste, beating the Lady Devils 6-3.
Celeste pitcher Madilen Fronterhouse struck out eight. She also slugged a double.
Morgan Nickell tripled and drove in two runs.

WOLFE CITY — WolfeCity outslugged Bland 12-10 in District 12-2A baseball.
Carson Herron and Casen Pessel slugged triples for Wolfe City. Nick Nowak hit two doubles.
