With all the HC's getting the axe in the NFL, I fully expect Ray Hortons name to surface.

After turning around a forever pourous Cardinals defense, which had to be one of the NFL's top units in points allowed during the last 9 games our DC will probably be gone in a flash with more improvement & possibly even this year.

Before you all laugh me off the board let's look at Horton:

1) Well spoken
2) Played & coached for successful organizations
3) A minority candidate
4) Knows one of the most dominate defensive schemes in NFL history & coached under & learned from a HOF'er
5) Turned around a perenial defensive dormat into a very good, non- household name unit in a short period of time

Cross your fingers it doesn't happen this year Big Red Fans, but be prepared just in case his name silently & quickly rises upward :bang:

You must have missed it. I brought it up about 3 to 4 weeks ago as well. And cheesebeef and someone else jumped all over me.

Won't happen this year, sans maybe a blip here or there, and it'll depend on how the D plays next year. If it does a 180 and reverts back to early season form there's no way he is considered for HC and everyone will be calling for him to be fired again.

I think you'll see more teams backing away from the "potential" a candidate has vs going w/ experience.

Many of the recent assistants-to-HC w/o exp are dropping like flies.. IE Haley, McDaniels, Morris, etc.

Horton won't be much of a concern until he get 2 or 3yrs of constancy out of this D. Plus, the league is moving to a more offense oriented league. You'll see more OC's get looks before DC's.

Agree, won't happen this year but probably in the near future.

Something tells me he's gonna get an interview this year for the reasons I stated above. Horton being a minority will get him in the door IMO, now lets just pray...

I don't think so, Horton is a brooder, every time they show him in the booth he has the THE THINKER look going on, I think He wants to get it right before he moves on.

I think we have a cool chance at a top 10 defense next year, If our offense doens't kill them off.

Maybe Mike Miller will get an offer as HC of soccer team or something? Whiz wouldn't know what to do with out him!

Chris miller: I think we ought to pass again
Mike Miller: you don't think we should try to trick them with a run?
Chris miller: Well we showed run and only got 8 yards on first down?
Mike Miller: your right we ought to pass it to Roberts for 3 yards again, send it in.
Whisenhunt: anybody got a Chili Dog? I heard Denny Green left some smoking hot talent in the locker room, everything I touch taste like rusted steel!

My understanding is that usually a Rooney Rule interview is some internal wink-and-nod guy before the team goes of to hire who they really want. If Horton gets an interview, it will be legit, IMO.

So in a little over a month and a half this board has gone from Ray Horton "stinks" and "should be fired" to being the next hot coaching candidate in the NFL?

i think its hilarious that the trait "well spoken" is always about a black guy. Its like unintended racism.

I don't think he goes anywhere this year, possibly not next year. I do not think he makes it to year 4 though, and that is ok. He brought Deshea Townsend with him here and I really believe that if Horton leaves, Townsend probably gets a look at being the next DC. It's what makes the most sense anyway.

There was a "The League" episode about this. See also: "He's a real class act".

Other examples: Firecracker/Sparkplug = Latino, Gym-Rat = White.

With the Jeff Fisher non decision so far, I'm starting to think Horton may be the Lambs guy. IMO Fishers probably wanting lots of control & probably $5-7 mil/yr, something the Rams probably don't want to do. Hope I'm wrong...

Happens all the time. Goes the other way too. Just look at Haley in KC. One January he's a Head Coach getting ready for the playoffs, the next January he's looking for work.

Like Hank Stram's famous line on NFL films: NFL stands for Not For Long.

I also brought it up some weeks ago. Looks like a real possibility he will move on to better things.

I never criticized Horton as I am not smart enough to know just how good he is. He convinced me the last half of the season he knows how to get the most out of a defense and listening to him he sounds like HC material to me. I sure would hate to see him depart just when our defense has jelled.

What do you expect? When we signed Warner he was called to old and likely to be killed from being hit. Now he is a legend for all time in Cards history. Come to think about it he was also Tebow like as many did not like his strong religious ties.
