Ok, no one posted the Beisel story put out by MJ on Tuesday so I guess I'm it.

Beisel and his agent talked about where Beisel might like to play. Beisel played at Kansas State and Kansas City was interested. Beisel told his agent that he was settled in Arizona and would just as soon stay there.

Biesels agent contacted the Cardinals and the Cards said that they could give him a one year veteran mimimum with nothing guaranteed.

Beisels agent then then talked to the Cheifs and they offered him a two year deal with some guaranteed money or money up front. Beisel told them he wanted to think about it over night.

He got a call that day from Billy Davis who asked him how the contract negotiations were going and Beisel told him not so well and he had a two year offer from KC for more money.

The next day he gets a call from Whisenhunt and they doubled the offer from KC. The problem was that Beisel already had gotten back to Haley and the Cheifs and accepted their offer and he felt he should honor his committment.

MJ said hes not sure if the Cardinals didn't think that KC would make him a serious offer or not, or if the Cards just messed up. He did think that there is some type of fued between Whisenhunt and Haley that caused the Cardinals to come back and double the offer from KC.

He does think that there is no love lost between the former colleagues and it wouldn't surprise him to see more fire works in the future.

If there is a feud, it wouldn't come as a huge shocker. Former assistants usually end up either really good friends or at huge odds with former boss head coaches.

Also, the alternate explanation could be that the coaches told the FO they wanted Beisel back and that the FO did right by their coaches in upping the offer. Too late, as it turns out, but maybe the FO was just trying to do right by the coaches.

Sando touched on this the other day in his blog and detailed how Whis and Haley have always been ultra competitive with eachother tracing back to their days with the Jets as assistant coaches. He said the two almost came to blows during a one on one B-ball game...
