Why not, he was highly touted(SP?) prospect who had a huge postseason and Beltran had never put up all that impressive of numbers except fot the 38 homers his year, but most of those were him in Houston and the is the one of the top 3 hitters parks in baseball and he is beonmg pain on a hot streak during the postseason from lst year, so I think that you can compare them in that sense.

I don't know what is not impressive about Beltran's numbers as a 27 year old CF. He's damn near a 40-40 player that walks as much as he SO's. Look again. And there is a reason shane spencer has never had more than 395 AB's in a season. He's a 4th OF.

When I am comparing the 2, I am comparing the season in which Spencer got called up and he was suppose to the the next great thing and had a huge post season and everyone knew his name for that. I am comparing that to the fact that Pete Gammons said on ESPN the he is going to get paid because of his postseason performance and he is asking for this kind of money because of that performance, because there is no way he desrves 17 million a year for his numbers. He is career 284 hitter with lony 3 season hitting over 273, only this year did he hit more than 30 homers and I believe that has to do with Minute Maid Park more than him. I know he is way better than Shane Spencer, I was comparing the situations, but lets compare numbers and saleries from the last year and what they will make this year or other good to great players.

I think in his cas had he play 10 to 12 more games his RBI would match Beltrans and he is only 2 years older and is had half of the errors Beltran has for a career.

Beltran is pretty good. He adds all the things beyond hardcore numbers. Batting for avg and power, speed on the base paths and in the field, strong arm and he's young. I'd give anything to have him in CF at Bank One! he's a top 5 player in the league for sure.
