You know, when I first became a Card fan, it was 1975, the year of the Cardiac Cards. After that season came the ups and downs(mostly down) where most Cardinal teams, after giving up a 14 point lead, would have crawled off the field in shame and then lose. Tonight, in an out of character move for me, I never lost faith in this team. Some were posting "we're going to lose this game, aren't we". And deep down, I mean, truly deep down, I knew we were going to win. The score aside it reminded me of the final game of the 1998 season against SD. We had a 2 possession lead in that game as well but the Chargers tied it up then with 22 seconds left then Eric Metcalf returns the kickoff to SD's 45 yard line and Plummer hits Frank Sanders for 10 yards then Jacke comes in and kicks the game winning FG. When it counted, that team found ways to win and with the exception of the 2 hiccups, this team is finding ways to win in the 2 biggest games of the season so far. With a little over a minute left and 85 yards to go, I knew we were going to win. With that, here's my analysis:

The Good

A Huge Win-Beating Seattle in Seattle last week and now beating an 8-1 team, an 8-1 damned good team, now those pointing out our schedule will have to find something else to nitpick.

Great Comeback By Carson Palmer-Carson had a bad 1st half. 2 picks in the first quarter and he just couldn't find a rhythm. Then in the 2nd half he found his moxie and had what is now a typical 4 TD game for him. Big win for him over his former team.

JJ Nelson-The next man up. Last week was Jaron Brown, this week it's JJ. Great game by the kid.

Dwight Freeney-So far the best FA signing of the year next to Iupati. The old man still has something left in the tank.

Fitz-What more can I say? The guy is a sure fire hall of famer and he's all ours.

Catman Can Do-Great clutch game winner by him. This should do wonders for his confidence.

Drew Butler-Sometimes you have to give credit where credit is due. He's been booming them lately.

The Bad

Horrible Time Out Management-Wasted a timeout in the 3rd quarter. Wasted #2 because we had 12 men on the field. Then wasted #3 on a terrible challenge by BA. Thankfully we didn't need them but that could have been disastrous.

Defense-Not their best effort but they were going up against a good offense but what puts them in the bad category is missed opportunities. Specifically having Cincy buried in a 3rd and 26 and we let them off the hook to quote Dennis Green. Not to mention the several 3rd and longs and let them live with stupid penalties.

Key Injuries-Losing Rucker and PP on defense contributed to Cincy's ability to move the ball at will at times.

Kick Coverage-That oh so close fumble aside, simply allowing Tate to damn near run back a 105 yard return was idiocy. What's worse is someone in the gameday thread actually blamed Cat for it.

The Ugly

Jerraud Powers-*sigh* You know, it's hard to blame a single person if a team loses but if we lost this game, I would be glaring in his direction for a week. I mean, he couldn't cover a book. He either plays 8 yards off his man or he ends up severely burnt because he doesn't have a clue on what planet he's on. This was the only ugly in the game.

Well, that's it. We have the horrible 49ers next week and should be able to pound them then those dirty Rams next before taking on a very tough Viking team. Great win with more to come.

Great writeup as always NJ. I agree about Butler, kid has been Nails. I dont know what has gotten into him he's a stud all of the sudden! I think he started doing steroids or something, which I am all for. lol

And I also agree on Powers. People keep defending him and on the radio they always talk about him like he's just barely a notch under PP. Not even close. It seems like every big passing play we give up, Powers is in on it.

Good stuff, NJ. Agree with most. Really agree on Cat kicking a game winner - here's hoping he has more chances to win bigger games. Two comments from me on the dissenting side.

1. I don't care to hear the words "Next Man Up". That was last years motto, and resulted in limping to the stretch and Starting a practice squad QB in a playoff game.
2. Powers is still hurt. He's not awesome, but he's not this bad. I'm cutting him slack right now.

Getting stuffed twice on third and one makes the ugly list.

Cincinnati won the line of scrimmage on short yardage plays on both sides of the ball. The Cards are usually stout when they go heavy on defense, but not tonight.

I was going to put the running game under bad but it kind of falls under meh, not good or bad. First game in a while where we didn't rush for 100 yards as a team. And usually I tear BA up for not running it in certain situation but when we were at 3rd and 1/2 yard, Cincy stacked the box and even run blitzed and it worked when Palmer should have called audible for a quick out pass.

Is it me or was that the best performance pass-rushing wise this year?

Not to mention, it was against a GREAT OL too. Arguably the best OL we played against this season. We won't see an OL as good as this in the regular season.

I totally agree. They were all over Dalton and coming in hot. It has to be the best performance this year. They even looked great against Seattle, but of course Wilson is a slipper ****** and can't be taken down easy.

I think they really need to work on containing not allowing the QB to run. It will be a nightmare to handle Newton if they can't contain him.

O-Line was good in pass protection. The Bengals have one of the best defenses in the league and we went right through them. They gave up 30 points in 3 weeks and we scored that much in 1 game. Right now I don't fear any defense. If our defense that scares me. Man, if our defense was as good as it was in 2013 we'd be unstoppable.

It did feel like the most pressure we've had all year. Not to mention, our rookies, Gunter and Golden got their first sacks. I think that was Golden's first official sack, no?

I think its his 2nd sack. He had one in Seattle.

Good: Bucannon - had 8 tackles, sack, fumble recovery

Minter - 11 tackles, he list some weight, I think is coming along

Play-action - Love to see some stats on cards PA. Seems like every time they go play action and Carson has a clean piocket, its minimum 20 yards.

OL - Pretty banged up, really played well in pass pro vs a good DL

The good - JJ Nelson on O and PP on D

The bad - giving up 17 points in the 4th Q

Ugly - 3rd and 1 and can't get a yard with our Oline

Palmer overtook Tom Brady for the league lead in touchdowns with 27 (Brady has 24 and plays tonight). His two interceptions gave him nine for the season, and he’s thrown for 3,066 yards and a passer rating of 108.6 through 10 games.

The ugly - Refs keeping a drive alive which Cincy later scored a TD. I think it was 3rd and 19 and called a very bad offensive hold that gave them automatic first.

Good write up NJ but I would also add in the bad section the defense tackling on Giovanni Berhnard which was horrible tonight. I try not to single out one person but for some reason we could not tackle him tonight. Lost count of how many times he broke tackles.

Very happy with the win.

I think the kick coverage team just relaxed, as they didn't expect him to bring that one out of the endzone...At least, that's how it looked on tv...Even Bethel seemed to let up and then had to chase him down from the backside. To blame Cat on that is just ridiculous.

Yea ugly was the 3rd n short runs that got stuffed.

This was the best blitzing I've seen from Betcher this year. I hope he keeps it up.

Our D was solid EXCEPT when they kept letting the little RB dump offs kill us.

Best OL we have faced I think.

Good tough hard win.

The third and shorts puzzled me. Earlier in the season they would bring in Shipley as a blocking fullback with success and now he doesn't see the field. I think had Shipley been in on those plays he gets enough push to get the first down. Why have they abandoned this play with Shipley?
