Sunday, a report suggested the Cincinnati Bengals and star Trey Hendrickson "reignited" contract talks.

Then Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins got their monster contract extensions together.

Now, the focus has shifted back to Hendrickson, where various reporting says the Bengals continue to work on getting that deal done, too.

Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz wrote the following: "The #Bengals, even after getting lucrative extensions done with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, still hope to do a deal with Trey Hendrickson despite granting him permission to seek a trade. It won’t be easy, but they are not giving up there."

The Athletic's Dianna Russini hit on similar notes: "Sources: Cincinnati is working to retain Trey Hendrickson and discussions are ongoing between the two sides."

As we've written consistently, getting Chase, Higgins and Hendrickson new contracts was never impossible -- just difficult.

While we still don't have the bulk of the details on the Chase and Higgins deals as of this writing, extensions were always going to bring the 2025 cap hit down, mostly because it chops down the latter's $26 million franchise tag. That leaves wiggle room for moves in free agency and other long-term items.

While the Bengals granted Hendrickson permission to seek a trade, his market has predictably collapsed as teams look at other options and Cincinnati's asking price remains too high.

Now, the Bengals can focus on Hendrickson, who had previously been in a bit of limbo.
