I don't have much to add. I know way more about basketball than football so I only post occasionally and when I do it's on the Suns board.

However, as a long-time reader of this board, I just want to say thanks to Mitch. Your posts are always informative, intriguing, and well-considered. This is a great post, as per usual.

Also, I love the labeling of Corey Davis as the "David Johnson of WRs". I see the same thing; that kid is special.

Thats a pretty darn good list. I agree with nearly everything.

Except:

Day 1: Christian McCaffrey (6-0, 202, Stanford)

There is a very good chance that Dalvin Cook or Leonard Fournett might be available when we pick. Both are elite RBs who we would race to the podium to draft.....if we didnt have David.

But all the same, If for whatever reason we take a RB in the 1st, Fournett or Cook are both above McCaffrey

Could we grab Ramczyk in the first round and let Valdeer walk? Would that save enough capital to keep CC and Jefferson/DJ (whichever one they might release)? That might be a good trade off, a cheaper, younger, and potentially good tackle to keep the defense in tact.

Eh, but the BEST we'd be hoping for is the status quo, and that's after using our 1st-round pick. It's also a big gamble. I wouldn't be in for that.

I may be alone in thinking this, but I really like what T John Wetzel brought to the running game and I thought he held up better than expected in pass pro. I like him at RT. And if the coaches do (which I suspect), I could see the Cardinals trade Jared Veldheer to a LT needy team and get a good player or draft pick in return. This draft has one of the weakest tackle pools in years---and the UFA tackle pool is very thin. The market seems right, if the Cardinals want to make a move. Could help create valuable cap room, as well.

I would love for the Cards to grab Cooper Kupp in the second round

I think Kupp is outstanding. But, if he doesn't run a sub 4.5 at the combine, BA won't draft him in the 2nd round.

Maybe. If they waited to cut Veldheer after June 1 the savings would be almost $7 million. If they did a back loaded contract assuming this is Fitz's last year they could likely keep Campbell. I'm hearing Jefferson may get as much as $7 million himself. I like him and so do the Cards, but not at that number. The question is does CC want to stay in AZ. The other problem is the Cards have 2 main needs; WR & CB. They can fill one in round 2, but it would be tough to get a starter at either spot in round 3. Of course if they trade down maybe the could get Ramczyk and maybe trade their third for their trade partner's round 2 pick as part of the deal. It's an interesting concept as Veldheer would seem unlikely to want to move to RT.

Evan Mathis was asked on the radio yesterday who he thought would be a good replacement for him. He said he was impressed with Cole Toner.

Veldeheers value is a #1 round pick at least good LT are valued like that, so which team would give up their #1 for Veldeheer.

If a team calls and you like Toner at RT and Veldeheer doesn't want to play RT or you need the capspace, trade for a #1 and hope you get something from that pick.

But Veldeheer is a really good player and a good LT so, I don't know if Humphries really can beat him.

Yeah I agree Wetzel was impressive.

I'd be all onboard but with all the players this team seems likely to lose, I just can't see Bask selling the fans or players trading away another starter.

No way do you get rid of Veldheer. He's the best OL we have. People want to get rid of him or move him just because DJH showed a flash of being able to handle the position which is ridiculous. Keep the kid at RT & have him keep learning how to play in the NFL.

I wonder if there will be a few trade offers for a RB at 13 that would allow us to move back 4 to 7 picks.... stockpile on day 2 and still get a quality talent like Kizer.

We KNOW Veldheer can be rock solid for us at LT. We kind of think Hump can maybe play there full time, but have an extremely limited sample size that shouldn't inspire anywhere NEAR the kind of confidence we have in Veldheer.

The problem is, Veldheer has not been as solid as rock at LT the past two seasons. He has been slowly regressing, not progressing.

Also if he is asked to move to RT will he be as good. I don't think he has ever started at RT in an NFL game...Has he? We all knew that DJ was drafted to be the LFOF so that told us that JV was on the decline. IMO

IMO opinion we are stronger with DJ at LT, we've all seen him struggle trying to play a new position. JV has declined in over the last two years, and I doubt we could get a 3rd rounder for him. So with that said I would approach him about a pay cut to stay if not trade him for whatever you can get. I doubt he'll be interested in moving to RT or taking RT money.

A trade of players at similar salaries (and dead money to the cap): LT Jared Veldheer to the Giants for CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.

Veldheer: 2017 Base: $6.5; DM: $3.8
DRC: 2017 Base: $6.8; DM: $4.0

The Giants need a tackle and the Cardinals need a CB. Win-win, imo.

The Cards will need several stretchers to carry the injured QB's off of the field.

The Cowboys had a worse player in Doug Free on their line and they were the best unit in football last year. Veldheer is a player who can be part of a very good offensive line. You don't just toss that away. We are far better off with a trio of Veldheer, Humphries, and Wetzel, than we are with just Humpries and Wetzel and a mystery player who we hope is as good as Veldheer.

Mitch, you turn down a boat for a mystery box on the hopes the mystery box contains a boat.
