Not intending to "steal any under" from Ryan's "Best Bass Riffs" thread, but I've been meaning to post the "Best Drumming Performance" for awhile.....

I'm not necessarily referring to the best solos, however, more of a song that featured a steady beat all throughout, but solos could be included...

I'll list five of my favorites for now:

1) "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" Steve Gadd (Paul Simon)
2) "Hold The Line" Jeff Porcaro (Toto)
3) "Instant Karma" Alan White (John Lennon Plastic Ono Band)
4) "I Don't Care Anymore" Phil Collins
5) "Cobwebs & Strange" & "The Ox" Keith Moon (The Who) (so many to select)

There are so many of course, but had to limit myself for now.....

my best solo

Toad- Ginger Baker- Live. I know your thinking the Crean re-union may be bringing this up, but not true. Listen to this guy playing rolls inside of rolls inside of more rolls. Just incredible.
i'll be back.

Agreed... and then his drumming on "Traintime" was just amazing as well... "Wheels of Fire" to me personally was Cream at their best.....

My knowledge of drummers is fairly limited, so I'll stick with what I know:

Neal Peart - YYZ
Mike Portnoy - Metropolis pt 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper (unreal, this dude does 3 time signatures at once in parts of the interlude)
Jorg Michael of Stratovarius - Father Time (from the Episode disc)
Mark Zonder of Fates Warning - Monument

Oh, and just about anything that Dave Matthews' drummer plays, that guy is godly.

I have to finally check out Stratovarius....what would you consider the first album for someone to sample if they've never listened to them before?

What kind of music is Fates Warning?

I love Beauford of DMB..... I haven't really liked any of their albums since "Crash" though.... It's unfortunate that some of Dave Matthew's music somewhat "inhibits" his fullest/true talents.....

Other drumming performances would have to be:

1) Anything by Carl Palmer ("Heat of the Moment" comes to mind)
2) "Synchronicity" Stewart Copeland (The Police)... He's just awesome...
