Just wanted to see some roles that were played by some people that were done exceptionally well yet garnered little or no attention or awards of any kind?

The one that sticks out in my mind as one of the best acting performances I have seen was Val Kilmer in Tombstone playing Doc Holliday. He was magnificent in this role IMO! Definately worthy of a best supporting actor oscar!

He totally made you believe. Especially in his suffering from tuberculosis(spelling)!

Any more you guys can think of?

Smartass, of course. :)

On a serious note, I agree with your choice, but I'd like to also add Kevin Bacon from Murder in the First.

Robin Williams in Death to Smoochy. How this movie wasn't more popular is beyond me. Its brillinat in its entirety, but Williams' retunr to darkness was pretty much overlooked, and he was awesome.

Daniel Day-Lewis in just about anything is great (although My Left Foot and Gangs of New York weren't exactly ignored)...

But what about Last of the Mohicans, the Boxer and In the Name of the Father?

Kevin Costner in The Postman

j/k

How about Kevin Spacey as Verbal Kint in Usual Suspects.

Wonderful performance.

I actually thought Eminem did a good job in "8 Mile" having never acted before.

Kevin Spacey won the Oscar for The Usual Suspects, so I probably wouldn't consider that "ignored". It's like Ralph Fiennes in Schindler's List, he was nominated for that amazing portrayal.

I have a feeling Johnny Depp in Pirate of the Carribean will be ignored.

Some others:

Joe Pesci, Kevin Costner - JFK
Robert DeNiro - Goodfellas & Cape Fear
Sylvester Stallone - Copland !!!
Willem Dafoe - Last Temptation of Christ
Martin Sheen, Marlin Brando - Apocalypse Now
Ewan McGregor, Jim Broadbent - Moulin Rouge
Gene Hackman - Royal Tenenbaums
Jim Carrey - The Truman Show
Val Kilmer - The Doors
Tim Robbins - The Player, Shawshank Redemption
Morgan Freeman - Glory, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (yes, THAT Robin Hood), Unforgiven, Se7en, Nurse Betty
Brad Pitt - Se7en
Kevin Spacey - Se7en, Glengarry Glen Ross, The Ref, Swimming With Sharks, LA Confidential
Russell Crowe - LA Confidential
Guy Pearce - Memento, LA Confidential
Emma Thompson - In the Name of the Father, Dead Again
Monica Bellucci - Malena

Dude, I had his cuckoo clock quote as my sig for a real long time... :D

Actually, you say that you don't know many people who give it props now, but that may be because nobody has really seen that brilliant movie. One of the best I've ever seen, by the way.

I don't know...I tried to ignore that role as much as possible. I guess it was a love it or hate it movie, and, well, I guess you can guess what my opinion was. :D

It was supposed to be a joke.
Don't you know the Simpsons episode when Homer says something like "Damn you Cable Guy, you almost ruined his career!"?

That's too bad, Cable Guy is a very underrated movie and underrated performance by Jim Carrey. He's brilliant in the movie.

Definitely my least favorite Coen Brothers movie, but I must admit, the acting is pretty stellar all around.
