Good point. When Kevin Johnson drove the ball to the basket he was fouled on almost every possession. The referees simply swallowed their whistles. He took a brutal beating creating an inside game for the Suns.

Yup. And part of the reason he sustained so many deep thigh bruises. His durability was always in question, but the league didn't help him out any.

Can you imagine what KJ could do in this era? He got 20/10 in the "hand check/ hard foul/ only superstars get calls" era. Plus he would take far less of a beating allowing him to rack up mad numbers. AZBaller is right, he might have had the most dominant mid range jumper ever. KJ was just a couple decades too early.

KJ would have been unstoppable in this era the way fouls are now called. Also his career would have likely been prolonged. It's a shame the referees did not protect him more. A foul is a foul in my book.

It's not like KJ's Grant Hill or Derrick Rose. It was a shame about the injuries but he was more dominant than Payton. For all his glove holding he could not stop KJ when it counted. W's and numbers across the board. Just my opinion.

Still, he kept driving and missing at the end of close games, despite not getting the calls. 'Same thing over and over and expecting different results.

Somewhere along the the way, the Coach and the Point Guard have to wake up and smell the coffee. And adjust. Alibis are explanations of failure.

They did adjust. KJ developed a three point shot, and we played him off the ball next to Jason Kidd

BC, the NBA game has changed. The three point shot is much more prevalent in today's game.

Those big centers you liked so much are now shooting 3 point shots if they want to play.

It's too easy to blame the blame game. Kevin Johnson had a great career.

Yes, yes and yes. But it was frustrating to watch KJ get blocked so often, driving the lane with the game on the line. Even a player with a great career isn't perfect.
