Need your help guys & gals!

Whats the best sports talk radio in the Valley of the Sun???

KDUS??

KMVP??

XTRA 910???

I'm an out-of-town Arizonan in the business and would be interested in the pro's and con's of these stations.

Thanks for your help, fella's!

If you're looking for a job, I would consider changing your name to something more palatable like "filthy" or "a complete mess."

But anyway, I like 1060. It's all local, which is a plus. MJ and Bill Lewis know more about the Cards than anyone else locally, especially Gambo and Ash. That's absolutely the worst duo around. No facts, no ability to look anything up when they aren't sure. Just a bunch of loud mouth NYC b.s. (Gambo) and a local guy who's too soft to do anything about it (Ash).

I like Ron Wolfley. He does a nice job and I like the inside perspective of a former player.

Out of town Arizonan... Does that mean that you're from here but you're there, or that you're from there but you're here?

Anyway, welcome aboard.

Thanks

Thanks for the info Section 11 & and the welcome...

I call AZ home (parents are there, HS, and College-UA '91) but have been gone awhile. Keep up with the Phoenix scene as much as possible.

Would Lute Disciple be a better moniker? :)

You could use, "Bear Down." Because with the bowl games being in December and January there won't really be any reason for the UofA faithful to come out of hibernation.

You got that right, but we all knew AZ would suck (or didn't we?), but ASU's collapse is the real story!

Quick question: KDUS doesn't show up in the ratings, is it realtively new to Phoenix???

Remember Chuck Powell & Vinnie?

Former KGME (now Xtra sports) Chuck Powell and Vince Murata (sp?) (Vinnie of "Vinnie & Skinny") are on the morning show in Phoenix called the "Morning Ritual" on KEDG "The Edge" 103.9 fm. Although not a sports station or a sports show, they often talk a bit of sports.

They're still funny and quite irreverent.

When the financial related shake up at KGME happened, Powell went to the national Sporting News Radio doing weekend mornings.

Vinny is still doing pre and half time analysis of ASU Sun Devil Football on KTAR (620) / ESPN (860) during the games.

Bare Naked Sports.

That was a great show. It really sucked when they cancelled it. Didn't they go the Bruce Jacobs after that? I still don't know how that guy has a job.

Gambo and Ash is ok for short segments. MJ and Lewis are the best show out there right now but I don't get to listen to them much.
The morning guys on 1060 (Morning drive) are pretty good.

Gambo and Ash are horrible. Just the sound of Gambo's voice bothers me. I can't believe they cancelled FTHIS so those morons could get more airtime.

Chaz:

Don DeBaca and Dale Hellestrae. DeBaca spent 14 years, in various coaching and scouting roles, with the LA/ Oakland Raiders; Hellestrae played 17 seasons in the NFL, primarily with the Dallas Cowboys, and has three Super Bowl rings as a result.

They have a nice, unforced chemistry, and clearly know first-hand what they're talking about when it comes to pro football. Less interesting when they venture into other sports (although DeBaca also worked for three seasons in the San Francisco Giants organization). Hellestrae just got his first shot at a network NFL broadcast, working the 10/26/03 Seahawks-Bengals game for FOX with Chris Myers.

Good show, most mornings. Now, if only they could upgrade the advertisers (or, at least, the quality of their spots)...

I knew their names but I did not want to attempt spelling of the last names. :)

AM 1060 is the way to go.

I am rarely to listen to MJ and BL from 9-1 (at school),

but I also like the sportzone from 3-6.

Well said Oscar.

What the heck does bear down mean anyway

It comes from John "Button" Salmon. A UA football player in like 1910 or so (I don't remember). He was their best player and missed the game to to injury or illness. His words were " Tell the team to Bear Down".
It became the 'cats rallying cry.

Maybe Adam or someone can straighten me out on the details.

I laugh pretty hard at Gambo he is quite stoooopid but at least he admits it. Ash is coo cuz he is a fellow Lumberjoke. Plus they work in the same building as me so its cool.

for actual good sports content I do like Debaca and Hellestrae in da mornings.

I agree with WC on this. These two guys have the best sports talk show in town, even better than MJ and Bill Lewis. I listen to them almost every morning (driving to and from jobsites) and they are really fun to listen to. They are also informative and know what they are talking about.

Thanks, but I would rather listen to a couple of 75 year old husky voiced italians run down the pony odds on our wonderful sports radio station here in Vegas:D
