At least someone in the local media is starting to step up.

The front office appears to have whiffed with many of its acquisitions, further evidence that this franchise will never win consistently until it hires a real general manager.

He could have saved trees and just published this one sentence.
The season was pretty much over when the Cards failed to go after a quality OT and a solid pass rusher.
Graves must go!

and let go a number 2 WR and didn't sign a legitimate CB even though all we had were rookies and one 3rd year guy who didn't play well last year... oh, and we're still sitting on a 7 million bucks in available cap space.

Yes we needed a quality OT but that is one of the least of our worries. How abut a QB, a RB, a GM, a HC, OC, DC, GM. Compared to those needs an OT is way down the list. We could have the best OT in the NFL and would still be the worst team in our division or the NFL.

Our CB play has been atrocious this year. Teams continue to pick on Jefferson game after game. He is often 10 yards from the guy he is supposed to cover. Peterson is by no means living up to his reputation and #1 pick. Wilson is aging and our best cover guy is injured. We have no real cover guys available in the defensive backfield. Of course that is just part of our problems. The year is lost so what does the staff do now. Does the team quit. I sure do not see them giving it their all unless it is a contract year. Who wants to get a serious injury with a team that is 1-5 and playing like us with little or no hope of even coming close to winning a weak division. There are a number of actual rookies who are starting at QB and contributing this year. Our 28 year old Kolb who should have an advantage over these rookies as he has been in the league for some years is playing worse than them and only getting worse. He is making bone headed mistakes in judgement. I do not know if you can coach that out of a player. Andy Reid sold us a bill of goods and we bought in like the team we are. It did not just hurt us this year but for some years to come.
Even the Denver rookie QB fooled everyone and won his first game as a starter. There were numerous reasons this QB was not going to make it in the NFL but it seems he did not know it. His stats were not good but he won as he did all through college. Sometimes winners are just winners. Hope he makes it as he seems like a good guy who the experts gave little chance in the NFL. When is the last #1 pick we used for a QB the most important guy on the team? Draft 5 QBs if you have to but get one some way. Kolb Kolb is all we heard this off season. There were many red flags on this but some idiot in our organization decided this 28 year old who was never a regular on any team was worth a good starter, a #2 pick which will be high, and a big contract. Who ever that brain was should be sent packing. That set us back probably a couple of years. We continually trade away or let go in FA some real good starting players and them make deals like the Kolb deal. Is it any wonder we are 1-5?
I don't know how much input Whis has to bring new players in. But looking at this team, owner will not go away. We can continue to hire new coach. But one thing remains constant is the GM. Mike B really needs to hire someone more qualified. I know it's been said over and over again. But I just don't know why he keeps him around. I have to wonder maybe Graves knows something about B family. Like blackmail. I don't get it!!!! Please hire someone better!!!!! Or who can evaluate talent!!!!
Whis: "Hey Michael, I can't win with the players that Graves is signing with us!"
Graves: "Hey Michael, we can't win with Whis' coaching style and his coaching staff he strongly recommended to bring in!"
Do we fire both???
The only part that I really disagree with is the "that most astute football people thought highly of his future and potential". There were a lot of talking heads who liked Kolb, but there were just as many people shocked at the trade and the hype Kolb had received.
Mike Lombardi, Trent Dilfer, the people at footballoutsiders, basically most of the people who actually scout the players they talk about and dont just watch highlights, saw a ton of flaws in Kolb's game and considered him a marginal prospect at best.
Colts have 1 bad year, could get Andrew Luck. Cards have a bad year and end up w/Levi Brown.
I was listening to Bickley and MJ on the way home and they were the most critical I have heard any journalists yet regarding Whisenhunt and company and their decisions. Bickley again reiterated that this team will not be any good until they get a proper GM in place. He also said he thinks Whisenhunt can be a good coach with a good GM. A lot of callers were calling up hammering away at this team. The goodwill from that Super Bowl run is definitely used up in Phoenix. There will be some fallout from this season, and I really have a feeling Graves will be out as GM.
Funny tweet by Bickley today
