It seems he wants to keep everyone. Does he understand how a cap works? This scares me.

Usually when a mouth from the Cards organization says stuff like “the devil’s in the details”, you can bet your bottom dollar whatever player they’re talking about ain’t coming back.

And based on Chandler's tweet he thinks it him.

We see teams every year, able to resign players (Bucs just resigned there entire Super Bowl roster last year) and Free Agents, even when in Cap Hell. It can be done, even if the Cards really haven't played much in that sandbox before.
As the saying goes, teams can always create cap space IF they really WANT to. The decisions may not always be easy but TB like you used as example is proof it can be done.

Good Lord guys, he gave nice broad answers because they are in negotiations or about to proceed with them. These are a bunch of noncommittal responses which any owner is going to give unless they are a loose cannon like Jerry Jones who is still going to keep it close to the vest. No, Michael does not think he can sign everyone and did not even approach that confirmation in this interview. Yes, the man he has at the helm named Keim has done some questionable draft picks and the result being free agent signings which seem to then follow no long term plan because he cannot get the draft right... but to think Michael Bidwill, an accomplished lawyer, is an oblivious moron, like a few here seem to want to suggest, is why I come here sometimes just for comical entertainment

Based on the laughing emojis with tears I would equate that to LMAO by Jones.

Don't believe anything you hear from any team this time of the year.
The only information he gave to me is that he does not think Chandler Jones is going to be a Cardinal, since you could take his response as what one might say after a player retires lol

The cap is only an excuse to not keep players. Any team that wants to keep a player, or sign a FA, will find the cap space. It's been proven time and time again throughout the years. Plus, the cap is going to rise to great heights in the near future so structuring a contract is the key.

Agreed. Can't count how many times "X" team was way over the cap, couldn't keep any of their high priced FA's, then next thing you know they are all signed and one or two were paid the highest contract at their position.

this is true

i think the cap is less about (within reason) what you pay a given player and more about if you get the right production out of that player -- especially in the out years

if Chandler was 28, this would be a no brainer (and would have likely been extended. But he isn't

Agreee, I think we all know that Chandler is gone. Cards can't afford what he is asking for and will get on the market.

There are ways to rig the cap to resign Chandler. I don't think that will be the issue.

I think the issue will be the gaping chasm between what CJ thinks he is worth and what the Cards think he is worth based on last years form.

Kyler has been criticized a lot for his performance down the stretch. Jones deserves more for everything outside game 1. He's arguably our most important defensive player and he was absolute dog **** for most of the year. A complete liability vs the run and a ghost in several games.

It would be much stupider to say we are not going re-sign x, x and x because os the cap. That immediately limits your negotiating position with all the other free agents.

A lot more will be known this week when agents and teams get an idea of what players will get.

This is what is freaking hilarious... Keim is so bad at the draft, or rather navigating the draft picks once our coaches get them, that Chandler Jones would really not matter if Calais or Haason could be signed but were former Cardinals lol

The Saints play the Cap every year by converting Salary to Signing bonuses and adding Void years to contracts.
In the last week they restructured the contracts of Michael Thomas, Andrus Peat and Ryan Ramczyk to create $34M in cap space for 2022. They have more work to do to get under the cap but I'm sure they will and there won't be mass cuts of star players coming from the Saints anytime soon.

Keim really started using Void years a couple of seasons ago. It looks like Keim is planning on following the Mickey Loomis model that has worked for the Saints over the last decade.

Devondre Campbell was another player that I remember Keim using Void years on. Signed for 3 years $7M with the last two years being Void years. So they paid him $2M to play that one year in 2020 and then ate the $5M the following year after his contract voided.
