On Zauner, read "Next Man Up" the author is a guy who is known for not pulling punches and the book portrays Zauner as a very good ST coach.

ok. But whats the authors credentials other than being an author?

Yea I know him. But hes just a sportswriter. Is it his opinion in the book or is he saying what others around the nfl say about Zauner? because we all know how far sportswriters opinions and predictions go.

There's a big difference in some hack in New York writing about the Cardinals without ever even taking the time to review a game and what JF did which was spend an entire season with the team.

Here's what he wrote about Zauner.

"Zauner was a special teams savant. Unlike other coaches who saw coaching special teams as a stepping-stone to another job, Zauner had always coached special teams. He had been the first fulltime special teams coach ever when LaVell Edwards hired him to do that job in 1979 at BYU. He had been both a punter and a place kicker in college and had been in NFL training camps as a punter, though he had never made a team. He understood everything about special teams play. He had studied it for years, spending hours and hours looking at speial teams tape and working on the practice field with special teams players. Practice periods devoted to special teams work were known as the "Zauner hour".

Zauner and Billick had worked together in Minnesota for 5 seasons. In 2002 Billick had brought Zauner to Baltimore as special teams coordinator. Billick had absolute faith in Zauner's understanding of special teams play and special teams players, a faith that was occasionally disturbing to the scouting staff, since Billick was apt to take Zauner's word over theirs if there were a conflict.

You can argue all you like that we aren't doing well because BB is cheap but the players we have NOW should have won that game.

You are as wrong as it's possible to be on that comment

So you're saying we DON'T have the lowest budget in the league for assistant coaches this year, and every year in recent memory?

Would you care to bet a dollar on that?

I know it drives you mad, in your new role as Official Bidwill Cheerleader, when someone points out that they really aren't doing everything in their power to field a winner. But my comment isn't really as wrong as it could possibly be. You see, if the Bidwills didn't enter this season $10 million plus under the cap and didn't have the cheapest coaching staff in the NFL, then I would have been more wrong.

Unfortunately, both of those things are accurate. So the big-money free agent signings like James are effectively the equivalent of putting a marble facade on a tin shack. It may look fancy when you pass it on the street, but inside it's still a piece of crap. Window dressing is the term, I believe.

SOS, different day, different way to spin...HOLD THE FRIGGIN PERSONNEL ON THE FIELD ACCOUNTABLE (COACHES AND PLAYERS ALIKE)...THIS is their PROFESSION and they are miserably inadequate, underperforming, uninspired and pathetic for the most part...is that Bidwill's fault too? Gimme a break...
I don't agree with every decision the Bidwill's make, and they have been responsible for some of the problems in the past...but the performance of THIS TEAM, THIS YEAR is on the players and coaches, simple as that!

Yeah, I made it up. Everything that contradicts what you want to believe is made up.

Look it up and you can find the information for yourself. Took me about 5 minutes of looking around on Google.

According to http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/bears/117600,CST-SPT-mully31.article, the Chicago Bears have the lowest paid staff in the league.

They could be wrong, and I invite you to not keep your source to yourself. Do you have a reference to the ranking of coaching staff compensation in the NFL?

As an aside, even if the Bears are not the lowest, for them to be very low would seem to contradict the theory of coaching staff salary as a valid determinant of on field performance.

I am not of the opinion that salary equates with performance or knowledge.

This is lucky for me, because if it was, then I could be looking at a severe pay cut.

Contradiction, not at all. An anomaly, yes.

From 1994 to the 2004 season teams with a 9-7 or better record, 75% of their coaching staffs were above the average coaching salary pay scale.

There is also this on head coaching salaries and their relation to winning:

http://www.arizonasportsfans.com/vb/showpost.php?p=1154648&postcount=38

As for us being the lowest paid coaching staff. That honor does go to Chicago. But we are still in the bottom 5. We actually moved up one spot when we gave Frank Bush a pay raise and give him the extra title of Assitant Head Coach, before that we were #2, then moved to #5 when we brought in our new OL, DL, and ST coach this year. What that tells me though is that the Cards are starting to spend more then they usually do on coaches, they jumped 3 spots after hiring only 3 coaches, How much higher would they go if they had to hire a full staff of 18 or more?

So although coaching salaries dont gaurantee a winning season, they do statistically increase your odds.

But it is Green that is trotting out the most inept offense in NFL history. To be this bad with that talent is impressive.

Thanks Denny my grass was getting a little long.

Where is all this talent on offense?

A rookie QB playing like a rookie who supposedly is out partying so doesnt seem to be too concerned, wide receivers who are possession receivers, no speed wide receiver to stretch the field, and maybe the worst offensive line in history.

Perhaps the Cards coaches are low paid but these are Denny's guys that he wanted. Denny was not going to get strong coaches that would not be yes men to him. Solomon, Hargrave, Alex Woods, etc. were not in demand. They were his "moles" in Minnesota.

What makes any of you think that Denny would have gone another direction.
If he had more money, he just would have paid them more!

Where the hell is this coming from? First someone from the DC area posts this and now you, from Missouri, post this. I don't know about the rest of my compadres here in Arizona but I haven't seen it in the local press at all. If he was out partying the local press would be all over him.

The coaches were picked by Green. Period! The Bidwills haven't always done things right..but..When the Cards came to the desert Lomax was leading us to a first season mark of 7-4..Bidwill didn't hurt Lomax, but when he went down we didn't win another game. Rosenbach drafted in supplemental paid a lot of money looked great his rookie year. Bidwill didn't ruin his career the day it rained in Fl;agstaff and his foot twisted on that horid artifical turf..Never came back Tom Tupa was our QB. Lets talk Plummer and his overpaying him to keep the fans on our side, yes his fault. But we put Plummer in a no win situation when every offesive coach wanted him to be a pocket passer. All he has done is take DEnver to the playoffs and maybe this year to the Bowl. BUt by signing Jake we had to low ball Lomas Brown Larry Centers and Jamier which led us to lose all three after the playoff year of '98.

Now if Green was a good coach(forget great coach) he would have fixed this O-line in three years. Should have been done in two years. I had stood stupidly on his side when he tore apart what we had and added even worse players. I thought he knew what he was doing. I thought Buddy Ryan would know what he was doing. We at least I was fooled. Bidwill spent the money on the players Green wanted. Green as it turns out was just picking up a paycheck.

I guess you can blame some, all or lady luck for where we are. One thing I.
I'm pretty sure of is that we have some very good players not playing very good.

GREEN picked and kicked everything that has yo do with the offensive line. PERIOD! He has stated it himself. He's burnt toast at the end of the season. AND to say the Bidwills are cheap, just because we're under the cap is ludicrous! Absolutely ludicrous. Have they made some bad decisions? Maybe. BUT, have they done some great and completely unecpected things? That have reversed the image of ownership of this team? You bet ya. It's got nothing to do with being cheap. The head coach has lost a very talented team. he has not taught them to fight throught the tough times. He has not taught them to kick the man when he's down. This has NOTHING to do with the Bidwills and everything to do with the head coach and staff.
Sorry ED, but in this case, your way off base and your gonna get picked off.

The Bears have a lower average salary among their coaches, but the Cardinals have fewer assistants and therefore the lowest overall coaching budget.

And you're right about the Bears. They've made a great success with a cheap staff. I think that may be the exception, not the rule. And after this season, when Rivera and Lovie Smith get massive raises, they won't be on the bottom anymore.

We're 1-8. How have they "reversed the image" of the team?

Our OL is the worst in the league, bar none, and we entered the season almost $15 million under the cap. Whose fault is that? Green?

I understand how everyone's down on Green, and I'm sure he'll be fired at the end of this trainwreck season. But the defense of the Bidwills I don't buy. At all.

Only ONE THING has been constant on this team throughout its 80 year history of losing and that's the ownership. If the players and coaches keep changing - and they do - yet the result is the same, then how is it that the outcome is always identical? If Bidwill isn't a problem, why have the Cardinals achieved the statistical near-impossibility of having only one winning season in the past 25 years?

Green picked him

Yes, he did. He was told "pick whatever OC you want, just make sure he'll work for minimum wage." What a shock that we ended up with a dud.

Tell you what - I'll tell you to go buy a car and I'll pay for it. You can buy ANY car you want, just as long as it costs less than $1000. What do you think the odds are that you'll end up with a POS?
