Torre is shaking things up as he has moved Tony Womack to left field, Matsui to center and Bernie Williams is now a part-time dh. Also, ESPN was reporting Randy might go on the disable list because of a groin injury.

This should be interesting. Womack's production as a corner OF is laughable not to mention seeing Godzilla's circus act defensively as a CF. Georgie's decision to keep around old vets instead of heavily pursuing Vlad and Beltran is going to haunt this organization for a long time.

But what gets me the most happy is seeing RJ on the shelf. Not only does it validate the D-Backs front office for wisely moving the guy, but it also means the Yanks now are locked into a huge salary for the next three years with an injury prone power pitcher on the wrong side of 40 who can't even hit 95 on the gun. Hilarious.

I won't forget Womack dropping a flyball in right in game four of the 1999 NLDS against the Mets. That error cost the Diamondbacks the game and series. II have forgiven Tony since then with his huge hit in game 5 of the 2001 NLDS and game 7 of the 2001 World Series. Still, I can't see Tony playing every day in left field.

Yankees have never been the same ever since Game 7 ... and that's not because they haven't won a WS since. George S. was so dismayed that he's played an active part in the team's off-season moves ever since then... and all he knows is getting proven Alll Stars without regards to developing the overall organization.

Right now Yankees and their fans have to root for this guy Saturday:

Should he fail to win the Derby, heads are likely to roll in NY

Many around baseball directly give credit for the Yankee dynasty of the late 90s to Commissioner Fay Vincent for suspending George Stenibrenner for the whole Dave Winfield debacle. I was too young to remember, but apparently Georgie hired a PI to dig up dirt on Winfield and when Vincent found out about it he suspended George for life only to change his mind a few years later.

During this time is when the guys who were the backbone of all those championships (Jeter, Mo Rivera, Bernie, Posada, Pettite, etc.) were all top prospects in the Yankees organization. Some believe that if Steinbrenner were still in charge they all would have been dumped off for old spare parts in an attempt to satisfy George's appetite for winning. Who knows what really would have happened, but it's an interesting hypothetical scenario.

The most hilarious part of the shake up with the Yankees is that: "The Big Unit Has Stiff Groin".

That's one for the ages.

The Honeymoon between Johnson and the NY paparazzi will soon end and the battles will begin. He will wish for the Gil Tyrees of the world pretty soon.

Look at the trade we made with them for production. We got 2 starters with good era's so far (Vazquez and Halsey-does he even shave yet), and 10 million for Green. It looks like the Yankees got fleeced, but if the yankees make it to October, I'd bet on him again.

why - because Randy would inevitably show up and gte pounded like he usually doe sin the playoffs (save the one glorious year in 2001).

Seriously - even if the Yanks get in to the playoffs, they're screwed - Randy ain't what he used to be and the guy he used to be routinely got banged around come pressure playoff time.
