just watched a report on the cards home page....apparently they had AW as a personal voucher for this guy and have zero concerns over his character or the incident with the spice.

I haven't seen too many games of the Patriots. What type of pass rusher is he? does he have a quick first step? is he based on power? a combo of power and pass rushing moves?

The Pats could absolutely afford him. Could be the richest team in football.

There is that matter of the cap thingy...
They have a ton of players that they need to re-sign or somehow deal with this season and next.
They re-loaded with Chris Long for now at a drastically lower price, allowing them to target guys like Butler and Hightower, among others...

and there are always ways around the cap. We've seen it for years. Of course they have other high priced FA coming due.. IMO you always keep the young playmaking pass rusher.. But their decision is our gain (for now)

Thanks. Been dealing with AFIB for the last year.

Funny thing is they are trying to get my heart rate down and it spiked when I saw this trade.

Love the trade, sorry to hear about the AFIB. I spent the day in ER too. I don't know about you but if I could go back in time I think I'd decline the Adriamycin.

Are you battling cancer? :|

No, the adriamycin was to treat cancer but that was many decades ago. When I had cancer the first time they didn't realize the issues and they gave the drug to me very quickly. They've since learned to mitigate those risks by slowing down the process but even still, there are cancer survivors (mostly breast cancer survivors) that all too often find a new cross to bear years after their treatment. It's long past time they learn how to treat cancer and to do it without killing the host.

I've been a Cooper supporter but to think he was magically going to turn into a stud, even above average player, is a reach. The guy couldn't beat out Ted Larson this year. His excuses, time frame to show something, are up.

As for the 2nd round pick, that's not even an issue. Most never have an impact anyway and especially a late 2nd rounder.

The Cards just got ALOT better yesterday. Jones will make the other players better pass rushers too because teams will be game planning/concentrating on stopping Jones. Which, in turn, will make the secondary better. You can't ask for a better addition to the Cards.

I couldn't agree more. This is a great trade. When you have 2 first round draft choices, you take the pass rusher over a G every single time. The 2nd round pick somewhat justifies the trade for the Pats, but only because they are so desperate at the OLine position. For a team like the Cardinals, that feel they are player or two away from winning a SB, this was a homerun.

Interesting move by the Cardinals if Jones can steer clear of drug issues. Essentially have him this year, franchise him the following year, and then make a decision.

The deal was a 2nd round pick with Cooper being the reason the Pats didn't trade him to someone higher in round 2.

Cardinals basically drafting Chandler Jones in the second round for two years at 9.5 per year (7 and 12).

I'm good with it. Won't shock me if we trade out of the first round now. C, OG, CB, S, and DE a higher possibility now.

Totally agree with your assessment. Ideally we sign a guard in FA and trade back a few spots into second round and pick up a mid rounder. Ryan Kelly, Vernon Butler, Vonn Bell, Keanu Neal and Jonathon Bullard would be players that could still be there.

that's fine... the cap will be higher, we will know what he brings for us on the field and in the locker room,...and if negotiations do not go well we have options with tagging.
my guess is they want to use what cap space we have now to bring in some other players.

Franchise tag is a beautiful thing

Yup. Unless he is terrible, this is a two year deal. After that, he will be 28/29 and who knows if the Cards will want to pony up the cash. They can let him walk and get a comp pick out of it.

Where things start getting tricky is next season. A lot of big numbers and players who will need to be re-signed or replaced. Keim needs to hit big on these first and second round guys to have some cheap, starting caliber labor on the roster. Hard decisions in the future.
