The whole Pats team are a bunch of smug tools, starting with Billijerk. They all talk like they're humble but it's all fake. So glad they lost

He's a wierdo but I don't know why Manning goes over there. Whats the point of that? Unless he's trying to provide us the entertainment of making Belichick act like a jackass. Its useful that way. But it seems like he should have tried to find Brady instead.

It was Brady's job to find Peyton. Anyway, Belicheck has about as much class as he does style.

I wish Bill Simmons would post a picture of his Manning Face in tomorrow's column.

I can hardly contain my glee.

talk about tools - any pro athelete or coach that thanks an imaginary higher being for winning is an idiot - like this supreme being that supposedly created a whole universe cares about what a team on some insignifigant planet does.
hahahaha...

Absolutely agree and that is what made this win so sweet. Talk about blowing a game. Their true colors came out after the loss. Fake, fake, fake....

So who should he have thanked? Nike? The fans? The owner? The local radio station? His mom and dad? His High school coach?

You thank who ever you believe helped you achieve the goal. If his belief is that it was God, that's great, more power to him. To sit back and judge him based on your beliefs is an arrogant, misguided reaction to something you had nothing to do with. Can you with an absolute say that God had nothing to do with the Colts winning? What if he'd thanked the limo driver who brought him to the game, could you absolutely guarantee the limo guy had nothing to do with giving Dungy the proper mindset to win the game?

It doesn't matter what any of us believe, it only matters what Dungy believed got them over the top. If it was his personal belief in a supreme being, who are you to doubt or question that? It's actually kind of scary to think that you actually believe you know more than a well educated man, who is tops in his profession and is compensated in the 7 figure range.

Now what is it again that you do and have the respect of hundreds of thousands of people? Just curious.

Okay, back on subject.

I was really interested in the reaction of Belichick when I saw Manning waiting just outside the media ring surrounding Dungy and Belichick. I got exactly what I thought I would see.

Can you imagine a guy who has enjoyed the taste of the Super Bowl multiple times, treating a fellow competitor like that? The Pats have beaten Manning how many times? They've greased out a couple of games on the way to the Super Bowl wins, so it's not like they were a perfect team on every occasion. Now they lose on the road to a tough team that beat them earlier in the year, but also didn't play a perfect game, but their Head Coach doesn't have the style to congratulate a QB who has said nothing but positive things about him and his team. A QB that has had to eat his share of crap from that coach in the way of painful losses.

Belichicks a moron, and I hope he's starting to get recognized as that by the media who have made him into some holy icon.

This is off the subject, but I always think the league should do something about his cut-off sweatshirt. They won't let guys wear suit and tie, but they let this guy wear this crap. Have some class Bill.

Yes, this may be over-critical, but hey it bothers me.

Thank you for saying that! ;) I believe as Dungy does and I guarantee you I'm not an idiot!

ok then - Gawd must hate the Cardinals.

If we take it as a given that NFL teams each have close to the same amount of believers in the Angry White Man in the Sky - why would he favor any particular team?
Who cares that Dungy makes 7 figures - does he have any proof of a god because of his salary?
Indy played with heart and won a game - there's no need to bring the supernatuaral into it.
Sports is a human endeavor - gods are for churches.

Let it be. Religion and faith are very personal things. Not to be judged and certainly don't need to be here.

I'm not a particularly religious person myself, but why get worked up over this? It's good humility and people need to believe in something. An atheist shouldn't care what people believe in--only how they act, an ends-based analysis.

First Christians don't believe in gods. There is only one god that they believe in(no football gods in heaven either by the way). Dungy is a Christian.

In the good book there is a verse in it (not sure where) that says "God helps those who help themselves." Perhaps the Colts helped themselves more today than the Pats did and that was what Dungy was refering to? He was grateful for God giving himself and his team the strength to persevere and win. If I was to guess i would say that God is interested in the people who are involved of both teams the most. Not which team wins. Because he cares he knows who all on each time has done the most and worked the hardest to be victorious. If I work harder than a competitor does to increase my chances of winning or accomplishing something perhaps God rewards me rather than the competitor and vice versa?

I agree but I do get slightly offended when others question the sincerety of people who choose to openly thank the almighty for his help in the win and presume it was pretentious of them to do so.

Actually, that's not anywhere in the Bible.

About the Belichek thing...I can understand why he wanted to get off of the field as soon as possible, but I think he should have at least shook Manning's hand or something.

Do you know if Brady met with Peyton to congratulate him? I haven't seen a picture of it and I don't recall seeing it after the game. That would be bad form, considering that Manning always found Brady after a brutal playoff loss.

ETA: I heard a clip on the radio of Manning thanking Bruschi for coming up to him, said that he heard from Tom, told him congrats and good luck. Sounded from that as though he called him later.

There is nothing wrong with thanking God for your gifts. It's how you use them that gets results. Thanking god for the gifts that help you kick another teams ass doesn't mean that the other team doesn't have gifts and talents either...just that yours were better that night.

Reminds me of the old joke about two preachers in a row boat in the middle of the lake. A large storm was coming. One preacher said let us pray. The other said let us pray but keep rowing for shore as fast as we can. The moral is God helps those who help themselves.

Manning a potential sore loser...

Did anyone notice Peyton Manning with his head down praying or crying, or just plain feeling sorry for himself just before Brady threw the game winning int? Instead of holding his head high and being a team leader by spurring his defense on, he took to pitying himself. Not the earmark of a champion or even a sportsman.

At least the Pats didn't make it in. Whew! I hate those guys.

I didn't get that impression at all. I saw a man who did everything he could for his team, but in the decisive moments it was out of his hands. He couldn't watch because he couldn't do anything more.

He could have held his head up and continued to pull for his team instead of deflating like he did. He is the Quarterback for pete's sake!! Isn't he supposed to be the team leader?
