Cosby said he got drugs to give women for sex

http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/...-he-got-drugs-to-give-women-for-sex/29788893/

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Bill Cosby admitted in a 2005 court deposition that he obtained quaaludes with the intent of giving them to young women he wanted to have sex with. He also admitted giving the sedative to at least one woman.

The Associated Press went to court to compel the release of the documents — part of a lawsuit he settled — and they were made public Monday.

Cosby's lawyers had fought the release of the documents on the grounds that it would embarrass their client.

The revelation has the potential to do more than that. Cosby has been accused of drugging and raping scores of women in episodes dating back to the late 1960s.

This is the first time he's on the record admitting to the use of drugs to obtain sex.

He has denied all wrongdoing and has never been charged with a crime. The statute of limitations has expired in almost all the cases.

------------------------------------------

That is not "obtaining sex." It is rape.

I wonder how he obtained Quaaludes, prescription or street drug? I didn't know they were even still available.

I wondered the same thing. These went off the market in 1985 (I did a soaper or two in my younger years). Interesting stuff.

According to his victims, he's been raping women for decades. He was best friends with Hugh Hefner and culled his victims from women who attended parties there. In the 70's and 80's Quaaludes were free for the taking at Hefner's estate. And a lot of other places where people in the industry partied.

I'm not sure about the dates on this lawsuit....but I was surprised he bothered getting prescriptions. That might speak to how many victims there are out there.

Bill Cosby’s wife says accusers ‘consented’ to drugs and sex

http://nypost.com/2015/07/12/bill-cosbys-wife-says-accusers-consented-to-drugs-and-sex/

Bill Cosby’s wife knows her husband is a serial philanderer, but believes his scores of accusers consented to drugs and sex, two confidants of the couple say.

Last week’s revelation that Cosby admitted during a deposition that he intended to ply women with Quaaludes before bedding them barely fazed Camille Cosby, the *insiders told The Post.

“Camille still doesn’t believe that Bill provided drugs and had sex with women without their consent,” said a source employed by the Cosby family. “She’s well aware of his cheating, but she doesn’t believe that her husband is a rapist.”

Mrs. Cosby is “a proud, dignified but stubborn woman. You can say that she’s standing by her husband, but really, the more people stand against him, the more she perceives it as an affront to her and all that she’s done to make him a star,” said another source who’s done business with the *Cosbys and remains close to them.

Camille Cosby, 71, who is also her 78-year-old husband’s business manager, demanded last week at a crisis meeting with advisers that their lawyers and p.r. specialists “get back out in front of this,” the business source said.

“I created him, I knew what I was getting and we’ll fix this,” she told the gathering at a meeting at the couple’s Shelburne Falls, Mass., home Tuesday night.

“They are making him out to be such a bad guy, a monster,” Camille said, according to the source.

“People are jumping ship,” she added in an apparent reference to actress Jill Scott, who now says she’s sorry for her staunch support of Cosby, and comedian Jimmy Walker, another onetime defender who now calls America’s Dad the “O.J. Simpson of comedy.”

This is surprising at all. Look at Jerry Sandusky's wife, she is in the same denial.

Obama Wades Into Growing Sex Scandal Surrounding Bill Cosby

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/07/16/u...xual-scandal-surrounding-bill-cosby.html?_r=0

President Obama on Wednesday said bluntly that the actions described in accusations that the comedian Bill Cosby drugged women for sex would constitute nothing less than rape, and he said the country should have “no tolerance” for such actions.

In his first comments on the decades-old accusations against Mr. Cosby, the president sought to carefully avoid a direct comment on civil legal actions that have been lodged against the longtime comedian and television star by several women in recent years. And he dismissed the idea that he might revoke the Presidential Medal of Freedom conferred on Mr. Cosby by President George W. Bush in 2002.

“There’s no precedent for revoking a medal,” Mr. Obama said in answer to an off-topic question during a long news conference that was otherwise focused on the nuclear deal with Iran announced Tuesday. “We don’t have that mechanism.”

In the last year more than two dozen women have come forward to accuse Bill Cosby of raping or groping them, beginning in the mid-1960s.

He added that he made it “a policy not to comment” on cases in which legal action was pending.

But after a noticeable pause, Mr. Obama did comment, if indirectly, suggesting that the facts involving one of the world’s best-known entertainers should not be taken lightly.

“I’ll say this,” Mr. Obama said. “If you give a woman or a man, for that matter, without his or her knowledge, a drug, and then have sex with that person without consent, that’s rape.”

“And this country, any civilized country, should have no tolerance for rape,” the president added.

Essay on the personal page of Joseph C. Collins, a co-star of Cosby's on The Cosby Show:

OF COURSE BILL COSBY IS GUILTY!

http://josephcphillips.com/2015/07/of-course-bill-cosby-is-guilty/

"I was particularly shaken the afternoon I bumped into an old friend while shopping. The controversy was at its height. The story of Bill was all over the press. I hadn’t seen this woman for many years. Back in the day, I had asked her out on a few dates, but was relegated to the friend zone so fast it made my ears wiggle. We had kept in touch for a few years, but our lives had taken different paths. Over the years, I had watched with a passive interest as her career grew, so I was excited to see her and catch up a bit.

As we spoke, I recalled that Bill had been her mentor (play father, teacher…something. I couldn’t quite recall what it was). The question popped into my head.

“Hey, do you mind if I ask you something?”

She looked at me and then asked, “Is it going to make me cry?”

I was a bit taken aback. “Well,” I stammered. “I hope it doesn’t make you cry.”

She smiled. “Go ahead and ask your question.”

“Back in the day,” I started. “I remember that you knew Bill—that he was like your mentor or something. Did he ever…”

Before I finished the sentence, she began to cry.

We spent the next two hours sitting on a bench talking. Through tears, she told me her story. She cursed him for violating both her trust and her body. She cursed herself for not being smarter, and for degrading herself in pursuit of success. I listened patiently. As she began to run out of steam, she turned to me. “Do you believe me?”

“Yes.” I said. “I believe you.”

“Why?” she asked.

“Because I don’t believe that you are crazy and only a crazy person would sit with me all this time and share a fantasy.”

I am not sure if our conversation was cathartic for her. I know it was heart-breaking for me."

Bill Cosby Dumps Attorney Martin Singer Amid Growing Sex-Abuse Scandal

http://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/news/bi...-sex-abuse-scandal/ar-BBmgeAg?ocid=spartandhp

Bill Cosby is making a change of lawyers as the sexual assault scandal surrounding him grows ever wider.

The scandal-plagued comedian has parted ways with powerhouse attorney Martin Singer, who has represented him as dozens of women lob accusations against the former "The Cosby Show" star, according to court papers obtained by TheWrap.

Cosby's new attorney is Christopher Tayback of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart and Sullivan, a former prosecutor.

Singer had been representing Cosby in a lawsuit brought against him by Judy Huth, who alleges that Cosby sexually molested her at the Playboy Mansion in 1974, when she was 15.

Earlier this month, Cosby underwent a seven-hour deposition relating to the suit. The contents of the deposition will remain unavailable to the public until at least December 22, as the deposition is reviewed to determine what may or may not be made public.

What parents allow their 15 year old daughter to traipse around the Playboy mansion on weekends?

Bill Cosby charged with sexually assaulting a woman

https://www.yahoo.com/celebrity/new...minal-inquiry-announced-142724650.html?ref=gs

Bill Cosby was charged Wednesday with drugging and sexually assaulting a woman at his home 12 years ago — the first criminal charges brought against the comedian out of the torrent of allegations that destroyed his good-guy image as America's Dad.

The case sets the stage for perhaps the biggest Hollywood celebrity trial of the mobile-all-the-time era and could send the 78-year-old Cosby to prison in the twilight of his life and barrier-breaking career.

Prosecutors accused him of plying former Temple University employee Andrea Constand with pills and wine, then penetrating her with his fingers without her consent, while she was drifting in and out of consciousness, unable to resist or cry out.

She was "frozen, paralyzed, unable to move," Montgomery County District Attorney-elect Kevin Steele said. In court papers, prosecutors said the drugs were the cold medicine Benadryl or some other, unidentified substance. Steele noted that Cosby has admitted giving quaaludes to women he wanted to have sex with.

The TV star acknowledged under oath a decade ago that he had sexual contact with Constand but said it was consensual. Calls to his attorneys were not immediately returned.

He was to be arraigned in the afternoon on a charge of aggravated indecent assault, punishable by five to 10 years behind bars and a $25,000 fine.

The charges came down just days before the 12-year statute of limitations for bringing charges was set to run out.

Bill Cosby to stand trial for assault charges, judge rules

http://www.cnn.com/2016/05/24/us/bill-cosby-hearing/

More than a decade after he was first accused of sexual misconduct, Bill Cosby will go to trial.

A Pennsylvania judge found enough evidence during a hearing Tuesday to proceed with a criminal trial. It's not clear when his trial will start.

Cosby faces three counts of felony aggravated indecent assault from a 2004 case involving Andrea Constand, an employee at his alma mater, Temple University. She was the first of more than 50 women who have accused Cosby of sexual misconduct.

If convicted, Cosby faces up to 30 years in prison.

The comedic icon has now been reduced to a verb. I watched a movie this weekend where the characters drank spiked punch and they said they had been "Cosbied".

Juror describes tears, frustration of grueling 52-hour Cosby sexual assault trial deliberations
A juror in the Bill Cosby sexual assault trial described how several people broke down in tears in the deliberation room as the jury struggled in vain to reach a consensus.

"The most intense moment I think was when there was about four people crying in the room. One was out in the hallway pacing, visibly upset," said 21-year-old Bobby Dugan, one of the 12 jurors assigned to the case.

After more than five days and some 52 hours of deliberation, the jury was not able to reach a unanimous decision, resulting in a mistrial.

Montgomery County, Pennsylvania District Attorney Kevin Steele has said that he plans to retry the case.

Without knowing what happened, to me this translates as there were several people who are passionate anti-rape crusaders (as all people are and should be, obviously), but that means they were fighting hard for a guilty.

TBH, I feel verdicts should be void of emotion. Its should be based on facts. Theres nothing emotional about data and evidence.

Having multiple jurors crying tells me they had a bias, thus a mistrial is actually the correct outcome.

Cosby Team Says His Talks Will Not Be About Sexual Assault
Remember last week when Bill Cosby’s two publicists said he planned a series of town hall meetings this summer to educate people about sexual assault?

They reversed course Sunday to say that the meetings would actually be about the entertainer’s legacy, not sexual assault.

“I just want to be clear,” one of the representatives, Ebonee M. Benson, told CNN’s “New Day Weekend.”

“The town hall meetings are not about sexual assault,” she said. “I will repeat. These town hall meetings are not about sexual assault.”

In a properly conducted criminal trial I'm not sure a deadlocked jury should not be considered a verdict rather than declared a mistrial. Clearly there is reasonable doubt for this to occur.

Cosby Trial: Juror Says Cosby Talked His Way Into Guilty Vote
by TRACY CONNOR and DONALD WOOD
A juror in Bill Cosby's mistrial said he "flip-flopped" during the long deliberations but finally decided the comedian's own words showed he was guilty of sexual assault.

Bobby Dugan said the clincher came as the jury reviewed sworn statements Cosby gave about his 2004 encounter with Andrea Constand, who alleges that the star drugged and molested her while she was unable to give consent or resist.

"When they were asking him would you use the word consent and he said himself he wouldn't use that word — I was like, you really just got caught red-handed," Dugan told NBC News on Monday. "Why would you say that if you were trying to defend yourself?"

'This was just the dress rehearsal. Round two is coming up': Bill Cosby's other accusers vow to bring him to justice after mistrial
Bill Cosby's other accusers vowed to bring him to justice this week in a show of defiance after the actor's sexual assault trial ended without a verdict.

Dozens of women have accused Cosby of drugging and molesting them over the last 50 years but none have seen him criminally prosecuted over their claims because of the statute of limitations in various states where they say he abused them.

Their hopes to see him jailed rested on the allegations of Andrea Constand who says she was attacked by him in 2004, which was recent enough for Pennsylvania's statute of limitations when Cosby was arrested in 2015.

When a jury failed to reach a verdict on her accusations after a two-week, highly-publicized trial in Norristown earlier this month, the other women were outraged

I have no doubt hes guilty, however, the problem with these cases is that no matter how many people accuse (in this case 50+) at the end of the day its still "he said/she said".

Excluding the religous fanaticism aspect, thats literally what the Salem witch trials were. 15+ girls banded together and started accusing people of being witches, and the townspeople said "this many girls wouldnt all lie, it must be true!". Having multiple people accuse should not be the basis for guilt.

You MUST have evidence. And waiting 20 years makes that impossible.

Back in the olden days it was innocent until proven guilty. The public court of today is not so forgiving. Legal trials seem to be less important if someone's public image can be ruined instead.
