There is no doubt in my mind that we will be running the 3-4 full time. Whiz has been alluding to that.

I wanted Keith Butler. But we should all just take a wait and see approach with Davis. I don't think his time as DC with an AWFUL SF team is any indication that our defense is going to fall apart.

Just look at Belichick (the devil) when he was in Cleveland, only 1 winning season out of 5, but I think he's done "okay" since then.:D It's alot about the talent.

I would be upset, but I have grown to trust Ken W.

I will take vanilla over "fancy" Clancy's gambling

That statement in itself should be looked at an re-thought.

IMO, I think the guy that took the team to the Superbowl should be allowed to advance his agenda.....once again JMHO

That's my sentiment as well. You take the Cards to the Super Bowl you get to do whatever the hell you want imo. Who's agenda should the Cards be following if not Whis'?

Do I know Davis' philosophy? No. Do I know his relationship with the players and Coach? No. Coach Whisenhunt does though.

I never saw Clancy as a "gambler" at all.
When we were behind or in a close game he threw out some stuff occasionally, but when we played with a lead, he was as predictable as they come.

I was really hoping for Butler but at least Davis has been here and the defense should be able to build upon how they ended the year (except for the last 88 yards). I wonder if this hire is something that Dansby would consider during contract negotiations with him more than likely getting the play calling duties, assuming they do go with a 3-4 defense, and his relationship with Davis?

Aha. Very good point, here.

Given the timing of this.. I still have a feeling Butler was our target, and we couldn't land him.

Coach Whisenhunt said all year that having the same coaching staff as the year before was a huge advantage. The playoffs seem to prove him right. I don't think he wanted to shake things up too much and stuck with someone familiar with the players and system. I also think that the team learned a lot about success and should have confidence to start the season. Last year they were close, very close, to winning it all. Smart, Tough, Disciplined...a little more discipline in the Super Bowl was all we needed.

Bad teams rebuild, good teams reload. We are reloading folks.

Is it September yet?

When Whiz first came on the scene we liked his coaching staffed and trusted them to build the team through good solid coaching.8-8 the first year. 9-7 the second year all the way to the big game. The only coach Whiz did not pick was Pendy. He is not on the same page with Pendy and after 2 years chased him.

In Whiz I trust. By promoting from within there wont be a major change coming that our players don't know. Guys like Dockett, Wilson, Dansby know this guy already. It's not so tough finding a Lb coach with upside. I hope he promotes within in on offensive side as well.

underwhelming resume. worried that was "groomed" under pendy for the last two years. overall trust whiz, but this does nothing to excite me. don't see it as an upgrade in talent until proven wrong.

so first important step for this crucial and wild offseason is a "meh" for me. next up, the likely "meh" as offensive coordinator.

as stated earlier we will run the defense whizz wants to run or he wouldnt have hired davis. davis must be all whizz wants or he would have gone into indy 1 man shorthanded, giving all the defensive coaches a larger piece of the pie responsibility-wise. he would have covered his bases completely, ill bet any of you, whether he had his dc in place or not. to him it must have boiled down to a small enough difference that he wasn't willing to wait any longer for butler.
I say GO DAVIS! turn the cardinals into the toughest, hardest hitting, most fundamentally sound, least penalized, most feared defense to play in the NFL.... and next year '10 set even higher goals!!!

I don't like where this is all going, seems like the super bowl is being used to advance the coach's agenda.

Not to mention the first 14pt quarter will bring out the media.

You have got to be kidding with this garbage. I would have perferred the name in Butler to Davis but I trust Wiz in doing whats best for the team.

Advancing his agenda? LOL. You mean like winning multiple Super Bowls????

Davis as 49er DC

I know talent wise, we have superior talent, but Davis' defenses with the 49ers were horrible. Last in points allowed and at the bottom in just about every other category.
