at this point, BJ is 100% upside

We say flashes his first year. Lost last year to an ACL. Curious to see what the team has this coming year. The grade on BJ is "incomplete"

Buster Davis was cut coming out of his first training camp for goodness sake

Upside? He's an "Eh, let's hope we can salvage something out of a 2nd-round pick" player. Expecting anything but a body at edge is crazy. Anything you get out of him at this point is gravy.

He was drafted hurt and we were told "give him time to heal." Then he got hurt. Troy Nickedglass is indeed an apt comparison.

Can't besmirch a guy for getting hurt. That happens. Just like when people call Andre Wadsworth a bust. No, he wasn't. The draft pick turned out to be a bust, but you can't blame the organization or player for that. We'll see what happens. He's still young and only starting his 3rd year. There's reason for hope but just need to see him healthy.

If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.

Even if you go by what he showed at LSU and his rookie season, there’s not much actual reason for hope.

He actually showed quite a bit at LSU. Enough to be considered one of the top Edge/LB's in his class and a legitimate first or second round draft choice. He played as a freshman, was a team captain, and after 3 years and 24 starts had 16 and a half sacks and 25 tackles for loss. Not bad for a 21 year old.

By top if you mean 11th then sure.

The issue with taking SEC defenders that don't pop with athleticism is that there is a chance that college production is masked by being around so many other top level athletes.

That's how it appeared in year 1. My fear here is that we don't see who he really is until year 4.

You sound like someone who didn't actually watch the games.

I'm a Mizzou fan, so I actually watch a fair amount of SEC games, and I also watch some pre-draft highlight stuff. Why do you have attack the legitimacy of my football opinion rather than my opinion itself?
Because you quoted the stat sheet. I watched a handful of Every Snap vids against top opponents and he looked like nothing.

Beej didn’t choose where or when to get drafted; this isn’t about moral failings. But he was unlikely to ever be a double-digit sack guy in the NFL and has done nothing to change that trajectory.

Is that really all that good, averaging 5.3 sacks and 8 TFLs per season?

Beej could up like Danielle Hunter. Look at this college career. Not saying it’ll happen (I don’t think it will), but who knows?

Maybe. But is this hopium or is there a greater foundation for this than they both went to LSU?

Hunter was also drafted a full round after Beej and had 18.5 sacks through his first season.

Beej couldn’t get off any offensive lineman his rookie year and struggled to disengage in the games I watched from LSU.
