I think she really dies in the end. She has to finish the ballet, the performance of her life, before dying to complete the melodrama.

If someone wants to look at it literally I guess you could make the argument that she bled out internally after stabbing herself if they didn't want to take the ending at face value.

Wow, overrated film. I'll take Mulholland Dr. over this any day. Better lesbian scene too :D

Meh, I prefer a REAL movie called The Black Swan :D

Just saw it last night, and it buckled my swashes...'cause Maureen O'hara was in it, and 'cause the movie rocked.

Yep, it's one of the best swashbucklers ever made IMO. I'd put it right behind Captain Blood, Sea Hawk and the Crimson Pirate. Okay, in all fairness, I'd probably have to put the first Johnny Depp pirate movie up there also. BUT, none of them had even a bad lesbian scene so I guess it just depends on what you're looking for.

Bah, don't get me started on the Sea Hawk. I LOVE Rafael Sabatini's novels (he wrote Captain Blood, Scaramouche and the Black Swan, amongst others). They were originally going to do his book, the Sea Hawk, but ended up doing a completely different story instead. The Sea Hawk was about an honorable English knight and privateer, wrongly accused of murder, spurned by his fiance, sold into slavery by his brother to the Spanish (some Christians, eh?), captured by Muslims, who converts and becomes a great Muslim captain. Adventure ensues. Magnificent book.

This version of Sea Hawk is adapted from a book by S.I. Miller called Beggars of the Sea. I hadn't heard that they had originally intended to remake Sabatini's Sea Hawk. Personally, I prefer Miller's story.

I recently watched it. Holy Crow this was a fantastic film. Aronofsky is the master of getting us into the minds of these crazies.

I'll be watching this one again for sure.

I anticipate quite a few long boring ballet sequences. And even more long boring discussions about long boring ballet sequences.

Couldnt be more wrong!

Maybe it's because I find ballet not exciting at all but I was kind of bored by this movie. The ride just wasn't exciting for me. Portman acted her butt off, I will give her that. Zero interest in seeing this again.

It's because you're so racist. If it had been called White Swan you'd have loved it!!! :p
