And that's fine. Issue with Bledsoe is not that he can't play. The issue is that he is terribly overpaid. Point of trading Bledsoe (same applies to the twins) is to get rid of his contract.

He's overpaid, but that contract is going to seem like a drop in the bucket once the cap goes up after the new TV deals go into effect, and it's not like his contract is a big boat anchor to begin with. Additionally, he's still young and developing.

I know you're not a fan of his, but his contract is hardly the kind of thing you dump just to get rid of it, and in a year it will seem like a bargain. Hell, this summer it will start to look like a bargain.

And the twins, whom I cannot stand and was ticked when we extended them, definitely don't fall into that category. I'd dump them to get rid of their disgusting attitudes, but Markieff's contract is a steal, and while Marcus is marginally overpaid its a small enough contract that it does not matter.

I disagree. Those three will be making between $26M and $29M over the next few years, if I remember their contracts correctly. That money can be spent on players superior to all three of them.

Here are a couple tidbits. I do think the Suns want to draft Turner or Kaminsky.

The Suns, who also pick at No. 44, follow three teams in the first-round draft order — Miami, Indiana and Utah — that could be interested in big men too. That puts power forwards like Louisville's hard-nosed Montrezl Harrell or Kentucky's versatile Trey Lyles in play for Phoenix too. If a big man slips farther than expected to No. 13, it would be Kentucky defensive star Willie Cauley-Stein for fear of a chronic ankle issue.

Paul Coro says the Suns have not shopped Bledsoe in trades.

For a team that lost a big man who can stretch the floor in Channing Frye, Kaminsky would give the Suns an immediate rotation player whose shot creates space for Eric Bledsoe, whom the Suns have not shopped in trades, and Brandon Knight, whom they plan to re-sign next month.

Of course, but you're going to have a very hard time finding a player available who's better than Bledsoe at a cheaper price.

This team isn't exactly in cap hell at the moment, and no one worthy of a max contract is going to consider signing with this team. I wouldn't worry about what his contract looks like.

This

All of their contracts are obscene for playing a game, but that's what it is, and if they don't get it, the richer owner keeps it.

So we constantly shift what is 'alot' for a player. Most of us remember when guys made 2-3 million a year and that was a superstar's pay. Now Tristan Thompson wants a max deal.

With the new TV contract, assuming he doesn't get injured or regresses, if he just stays at his current level of play or gets better even a bit, it will look like a good contract soon.

Just as long as we are not trading up to #4 to draft Kaminsky. Phil wants Frank. So I doubt #13 will be good enough for them.

Intrigue.

There is now talk of the Lakers looking at drafting Russell. I guess this seesawing will go on all day long.

Exactly...complaining about the contracts of Bledsoe and the Morri is ridiculous, especially the ludicrous assertion that Bledsoe is "terribly" overpaid.

I get the entire...you pay what the market dictates to keep a player but sometimes the market is completely manipulated by the quality of players available during a given time or a teams desperation to hold onto talent.

Bledsoe is no max player IMO and is overpaid. "Terribly" is subjective I know but he shouldn't even be getting close to max IMO. I guess we will never know but I would be curious to see what he would have commanded if the market was saturated with PG talent in FA and teams had much to choose from.

Bledsoe is a great addition on a title contending team. Does that mean he should command close to max or max? I don't know about that.

Well good news! He's not making max money! He makes 14 million per season, and would easily get that on the open market. Tell me what you think a 25 year old averaging 17/6/5 should be making? Please make the case he's overpaid.

When you see some of the contracts signed in this offseason (especially to a 30 year old Saint Goran), I'd love to come back to this thread and we'll discuss how "overpaid" and "terribly overpaid" Bledsoe is. (which doesn't even address the fact the salary cap is skyrocketing)

Bledsoe had no other suitors last year, so in essence, the Suns bid against themselves. So yes, Bledsoe is overpaid because he would have likely taken less or risk injuring his knee again in the 2014-2015 campaign and earning less this off-season.

I realize he is not getting paid max but people on this forum were arguing to pay him max. We are talking about a guy that never averaged more than 8.7 PPG until coming here. Maybe he was always better than that or maybe he benefits from the way we are playing him. That doesn't mean it will translate into the team going to the next level. We have seen players before benefit from a system and inflate numbers only for them to go to another team and come back down to earth.

14 Million per season might seem reasonable in a tight market no doubt. However, that's why I said it would be interesting to see where he would have fell had the market had a bunch of really good PG's hitting the market. IMO, he was worth no more than 10 to 12 million in a well balanced market. Keeping in mind, I am not a huge fan of building around a PG so I admit that I might be devaluing him a bit.

Huh? Where? Even more importantly, what does that have to do with the price of tea in China. You said he's overpaid, and he's overpaid because some people wanted to pay him the max?

Maybe you were unaware, but he was on the Clippers before he came here. Not only was he young, but he was behind a pretty good point guard there, which is why his minutes were limited.

You're making your argument based off of a hypothetical market that didn't and doesn't exist?

If I recall correctly, SOME people were saying just pay Bledsoe the max during all those threads about his contract. Also, read what I said. I am not a huge fan of building around PG's. Aside from a future hall of famer like Nash....I simply am not a fan. I think you can get a competent PG much easier than say a legit big man. There is a huge difference between market rate and actual value. So the price of tea in China is very relevant. It's simple supply and demand. Sometimes you have to overpay for something that doesn't inherently provide equivalent value.

I get it. Sometimes it has to be done. That's why I alluded above that paying him $14 million might make sense in a tight market. Not to mention that we all know the teams "guard" philosophy at the moment. Did he get a fair contract? I think so but man I hate building around a PG the majority of the time. I am always leery about spending on a PG..hence my thoughts on overspending on PG's. Keep in mind also I admitted I might be undervaluing him based on my feelings about that type of strategy.

Maybe you were unaware, but he was on the Clippers before he came here. Not only was he young, but he was behind a pretty good point guard there, which is why his minutes were limited.

Sure I am and I get it. Didn't you see where I posted that maybe he was always better than he showed before?

No. I am basing my argument on the perceived value of Bledsoe, the cost of building around a PG, the ability to get competent PG's in the league compared to building around a FC. As stated before, I am not a big fan of spending a ton of money on a PG versus a big man. I said I was CURIOUS how we would have made out in a different market. It was just a hypothetical question. Nothing more.

NY is being linked to Kaminsky at #4. Maybe Phil Jackson thinks he is perfect for the triangle or maybe they take Kaminsky at #4 for a potential deal with PHX?

It's hard to believe the Suns value Kaminsky that much.

If Jackson drafts Kaminsky because of his "fit" with the triangle I may actually lose my buttocks laughing.

I like that he is still trying to force the triangle. A system that has failed miserably everywhere its been used... except when it had a generational talent at the center of it, and its worth noting that those talents ignored the framework of the offense about 90% of the time.

Jackson is a great motivator and he is phenomenal at managing personalities (probably the most important job of a coach with a stacked roster), but the triangle blows.

Just magnifies how large the talent drop off after Townes, Okafor & Russell is. I know Kaminsky is the POY but I don't think he is the 4th best player in the draft. I really hope interest in him is a smoke screen unless Portis, Turner & Harrell are off the board but even then I would consider Cameron Payne over Kaminsky.
