I don't know if you guys talked about this but I just wanted to mention it in case no one had. I was listening to MNF on radio & Boomer seems to still have an axe to grind against the Cardinals. He softened his stance a little using the "some organizations" don't know "How to win" don't "keep their good players" (i.e.: Simeon Rice, Michael Pittman & Thomas Jones). I just wanted to ask what's his problem? I saw him play in '96 he had a couple a good games. (Washington - here) And he had a couple of terrible games (Dallas - here) & got yanked. You;d think after 6 years he could get over it... Thoughts? Did I miss something?
he got benched, I think for Graham? He had a huge 500+ yard passing game(with 4 or 5 picks though) and apparently he felt it was ridiculous to be benched so soon after that game. So he came out and said so and since he's Boomer, people listened and it got national press, Boomer says the Cards are dumb for benching him.
It got blown out of proportion and I don't think Boomer and Tobin ever forgot it. After the year he was cut, we named Graham the starter, Case the backup, and drafted some guy from ASU in the 2nd round.
It's interesting, in 97 he went to the Bengals to back up Blake, and eventually wound up starting. Blake had a bad year, playing hurt, lost his job after a concussion in a game where Boomer played well. Boomer finished up with a great year but insisted Blake was the starter, should stay the starter, and then retired. They signed O'Donnell(who played well) and went 3-13 with him.
Another Blake note, Bulger set an NFL record for most passing yards in the first 5 games of an NFL career last year, the guy who held the record before.... Jeff Blake, with 1410 yards in his first 5 games on 1994 with Cincy!
The NFL is like Kevin Bacon they're all interconnected (-:
