I can see how Berry is really helping the whole pass rush, KVB's CRUSHING sack of Gannon was enabled by pressure by Berry coming up the inside forcing him to pull the ball down and try to run...the 'Bosch was coming to say hello.

I think the opposite was true for Berry's sack, outside pressure and a great second effort on his part.

I also saw KVB getting double teamed after his sack.

Where is Pace?

I asked on another thread. Didnt KVB play a full season for the cards in which he disappeared and did nothing?

He had maybe 7 or 8 plays other than on special teams. I think AJ is right there, if they were going to cut him, he wouldn't be on special teams.

He did make one nice play where he got tripped up in traffic, lunged forward and dove at the RB making the tackle. But all in all he was barely on the field.

That's right. His second season, 2001. 50 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and 16 games. Because of that performance, the Cards felt it necessary to trade down in the draft and pick up Calvin Pace.

I think that was his first year...his issue has been injuries and inexperience. KVB was still the best we had then...do you recall who the other DE was? Yea...me neither.

The point is KVB is benefiting from Berry AND, I think, the compliment will be returned for Berry.

It was Fred Wakefield. KVB kind of played out of his mind his rookie season before getting injured three games in. Had something like two sacks and a pick returned for a TD as a rookie. KVB might be a decent strongside DE, but was playing way our of position as a pass rushing specialist.

The injury issue is not one that is going to go away, I think. He's in a contract year. If he can get 7-10 sacks, he'll get a nice new deal. Otherwise, with Berry commanding much of the attention on the other side, he'll be toast.

 .. 2 bad knees and we are seeing him as a major contibutor??? I would be happy to see him play 16 games let alone get more than 3 sacks <crosses fingers>

"Major contributor" might be going a little far. Honestly, I was going to be surprised to see him on the roster opening day, so he's way exceeded my expectations thus far in training camp. I think that he needs to up his game and be a "contributor" in general. He'll never justify his draft position at this point (#1 in the second round), but he can be a presence and continue to provide the defensive line with some attitude in a rotation with Denis Johnson, Fred Wakefield (shudder) and/or Calvin Pace.

k9,

As of right now KVB is playing on the "strongside" and I agree, he's better matched here. Playing this violent a sport on two surgically repaired knees is scary at best and I think that this will affect him come contract renewal time.......no matter what success he has this year. But I do admire his "Katie bar the door, go for broke attitude". Combine that with Pace's athleticism and you have one terrific DE.

In 2002 KVB returned from season ending knee surgery to LEAD Arizona with 4 QB sacks, 9 hurries, and 8 tackles for loss in 16 starts. He had all four sacks before a muscle pull in his rib cage sent him to the bench after 7 snaps VS Dallas in week 6. He started every game the rest of the year injured.

Careful on this, technically, the Quan has "two bad knees". The 'Bosch looked like he was fully recovered from his first ACL and starting to play well when the other knee went...last year.

KVB is young and seems to be healing well and continuing to build up steam in his performance.

However, caution is correct. DG has said as much; he seems to want to play the "Bosch more, but doesn't want to blow his recovery or season by too much too soon. One thing is for sure, KVB is not the kind to "take it easy" on himself.

cant argue the point... but it is premature for some people to ignore other proven pass rushers while we wait and hope for the best from KVB.

Since Simeon left, leading Arizona in sacks is like leading 3rd Party politics in votes. Dennis Johnson lead Arizona in sacks last season. Why don't you go jock him?

4 sacks is sorry for any starting NFL DE. That's why we drafted Pace.

Two questions then K9:

1. Hugh Douglas and his 3.5 sacks last year; would he be an improvement for us, please consider money and age (follow-up on Clif's thought).

2. Your choice / thought on 'Bosch vs. Pace?

4 sacks in 5 games before he was injured, and played the rest of the season hurt.

Did you catch THAT part Kerouac?

Have you ever tried to rush a quarterback with a pulled muscle in your rib cage?

Do they have a "setting" for that in Madden 2005?

...was the real point of this thread...it seems for any DE to really have a good year, he is getting help. If not from the other side, then up the middle. I don't think we have that hope from OUR DT's, so it will be 'Bosch & Berry or Berry and the CB's.

Man, it sounds like I am talking about Ice Cream or a Band!

No one compares to Rice in the Sack catagory from this roster or many others but at least KVB is NFL talent. The guys that he has played along side in his career here are all substitute parts. With a legit guy pressuring outside KVB can live up to his 2nd round draft status. If healthy he will be our best lineman against the run. What we have now up the middle is suspect but KVB healthy is not.
