I'd like to see Pace get a shot is all. I think KVB is what he is: A High motor guy with limited athletic ability. I think he will be fine-if healthy-but using an athletic guy like Pace on passing downs makes more sense.

Remember Pace was a rookie last year. How will the cards know what they have in him if he gets no snaps??

Did you catch THAT part Kerouac?

Would it were true, Lex. But they're just more of your lies. According to STATS, Inc., KVB had 3.5 sacks. 2.5 came in the first five games, you're right, but the last one came in Week 15, against the Rams. I have nothing to justify the veracity of your injury comments, but since you overstate his production in 2002, his only complete season, I doubt your analysis on that point, as well.

Have you ever tried to rush a QB with a pulled muscle in your rib cage? I know that lots of NFL players play hurt. Try throwing TD pass after pass with bone spurs in your ankle, like Steve McNair. He doesn't need anyone to make excuses for him, like apparently KVB does. If you were watching that season, you wouldn't have to be told that KVB was a non-factor during that season. His 2.5 sacks over the first month of the regular season totalled a disappointing 12.5 yards. Not really the stuff that nightmares are made of. Anyone who watched those games from an objective perspective noted that QBs had time in the pocket to set up picnics and chill champagne before anything resembling a pass rush approached. KVB was part of that monstrosity, and if he hadn't been such a marked absence during the season, we could be talking about having Byron Leftwich or Marcus Trufant on board, instead of hoping that Calvin Pace might make the team.

Why don't you take your sanctimonius garbage elsewhere?

Great....a guy gets injuries on the field and K9 wants to blame him for our lousy drafting....what a stretch that is....KVB as a second round pick in no way was expected to be a Rice type player....he was playing with rejects on a rebuilt line coached by a has been. You need to find reality. If you think that bringing in a second rate Cb like Trufant or that we might have even begun to think 0f paying a QB top money after the Jake debacle you are high. Pace is a second year underachiever...Bryant Johnson may still step up and be worthy of his draft status. KVB will most certainly now that he is going to be used correctly . You need to wake up.

You like to use a lot of colorful adjectives, adverbs and cliches to bolster your points? None of which seem to really add anything to what you are trying to say. In fact in here, you seem to merely attack another user with them.

12.5 yards on essentially 3 sacks is not all that uncommon. Not too many times do QBs take a 10 yard drop. Most sacks the QB has realized there is pressure and is taking steps forward. I would be interested to see what the avg sack in the NFL is since you have deemed it "disappointing" without any data to actually determing what falls into what category. Is disappointing under 4 yards? Average under 6? Is superb a 10 yard sack?

You call him a non-factor. Lets face it. The whole team was a non-factor. Kyle led the team in sacks. I would imagine that counts towards something, especially in a season where he was battling I believe a rib injury. Not to mention, I believe at the end of that season (if memory serves me), I think he had another knee surgery that was not reported in the press, nor did I see anything about it in here. I only knew about it from word of mouth at the church I attend (as do his parents).

Kyle needs noone to justify his performance. Has anyone seen him get on here and defend himself or ask someone to manipulate the stats in his favor? Why am I standing up for him? Certainly not b/c he asked me to or he needs me to, but b/c every player that has been ripped back and forth on these boards has probably got more to their story and performance than you could ever imagine.

I expect to see a healthy Kyle this year. If he is, I am sure he will more than hold his own. He might not be a Simeon Rice in the pass rushing department, but you wont see Simeon get on his high horse and track down a running back 25 yards down the field either. Sacks hardly are a good indication of performance as a DE. It's like the homerun in baseball... it's what everyone wants to see, but not what ultimately wins the game.

Hey newcomer, welcome to the board and by the way, great post.

But then we have to excuse Pace too, coming off a broken leg, and then playing with an abdominal injury that wasn't disclosed until after the year.

The thing with KVB is being able to stay healthy is a very big component of evaluating him. Bad luck or not, he hasn't been able to stay healthy.

I got the info from the Cardinals media guide.

...In first start since week 3 of the 2001 season, posted three solo tackles and a pair of hurries in season opener in Washington. (Sept 8)

... four combined tackles, including two stops for loss, and helped smother aborted Seahawk feild goal try at Card 9 yard line in third quarter of 24-13 win at Seattle.

...spirited effort the following week vs. San Diego (Sept 22) with four combined tackles and a hurry, including a 7 yard SACK of Charger passer Drew Brees on opening series near mid-field leading to a punt.

...encored the next week vs. New York Giants (Sept 29) with two tackles and a third quarter SACK when he chased down Giant passer Kerry Collins on a third and 12 down to force a punt in a 21-7 victory.

...superb effort in 16-13 win at Carolina (Oct 6) with 9 tackles, including a SACK for loss, as Card defensive line helped limit NFC's leading rusher, Panther Lamar Smith to just 49 rushing yards on 18 carries for a miserly 2.7 average...helped set the tone for the defensive effort early when he nailed Smith for a five yard loss on a screen pass on the second play of the game...added the SACK in third quarter at Cardinal 25 yard line to push the ball back to the 30 yard line and force Carolina to settle for a 48 yard field goal.

I see the word SACK four times in five games ... however, upon further review, I noticed the word SACK used twice in the last paragraph to describe one sack.

Sorry, my bad, but Liar? I don't think so.

Russ-

Calvin Pace did an ok job last year considering the circumstances. He'll get his chance to show what he can do, but he sure looked funny on special teams Saturday night.
