Just heard the interview with Suns assistant MI. He stated that the league advised Bowen will be assessed a flagrant 1 foul after the fact. Now we know. He will play tonight.

If they can give Bowen a flagrant 1 for the play after the fact, how come the refs in the game couldn't even call a foul on Bowen?

The officiating SUX in this series. It has been really one sided.

I thought they did call the foul. This is refering to the time he kneeded Nash in the groin right?

I wonder if this mean that it is finally a foul for Bowen to grab Nash's arm as Nash drives to the basket.

Seriously, has there been a two-time MVP who gets fewer breaks from the refs than Nash.

He did get called for the foul. After the fact, they're changing it to a flagrant 1. Maybe he's on 'double secret' probation now (like Raja was last year).

The Spurs have been called for 65 fouls...the Suns 62.

because that's an accurate way to determine how the officiating has gone. If you've ever watched an NBA game the officials always balance out the calls at the end of the game when it's more or less out of reach. The actual fouls called means nothing.

It's the type of fouls. The Spurs are picking up ticky tack fouls on the Suns left and right. It's not allowing us to be as physical. Overall the foul counts might be close but I just want them to call it the same both ways. Either have a quick whistle for both teams calling everything or let both sides play physical and let stuff go. Also, the Spurs should have about 20 more foul calls then they do right now. They are getting the benefit on reputation. Anybody who saw the last game can tell you Duncan should have fouled out.

but the fouls are there on the suns, they just dont call it. the spurs should have more fouls than the suns if its called fairly.

so how many times are two players face to face? one with the ball, and the other a defender on the ball handler.
and how many times does the the guy with the ball knee the defender in the nuts? never.
assessing only a flagorant 1 on bowen sucks. what else are they going to do?

duncan pulls amare down(game 1 or 2, near end of 2nd)
bowen kicks amare while going for the slam.(3rd in game 2)
big flop bob pulls amare down.
duncan sticks his leg out, draws a foul on diaw.
hack a nash begins, but no fouls called.
bowen's knee to the nuts of nash.

some big calls missed/made, most of them are non-calls or not justified.

i totally agree on that. i was counting them, couple of missed calls. like

(foul #4)nash's "blocking" foul on duncan. he was there, just like he was in game 2, an exact replay.

(foul #5)when amare was going for dunk, but duncans' left arm was pushing down below on the body, and his right arm all over amare's forearms.

(foul #6)and when big flop bob gets a clean block on amare, but duncan's hand is all over amare's arm again.

That's why D'Antoni was complaining to the referees late in the game when the referees started calling fouls committed against Nash. D'Antoni said something like ... why now?

i find it funny that a fan base that derives the spurs as cry babies (and rightfully so) spends to much time crying themselves

the suns players do the same crap out there as far as the holding and what not

bowen is a dirty player and manu does flop - both are major detriments to the team - but you just have to treat it like rodman - know that they can't catch it all, that it's not going to quit and just play your game over it

amare calls them out and then goes out and has a terrible game - inlcuding two very poor fouls he gave

this is a good call by the league and hopefully they start to crack down on the legwork this guy does

So what does this "flagrant 1" after the fact foul imply? Do we get two free throws in tonight's game? Or is it just for the records now?

it's in the records and sets the tone for a future auto suspension - basically he's been put on watch for the rest of the playoffs

Of course Suns fans are complaining, but our complaining it a hell of a lot different than the Spurs players complaining. They foul all game long and then act like huge babies when a foul is actually called on them (which is about 1 foul called for every 10 fouls they commit). Even when fouls are called in their favor, they go to the refs and complain about previous plays where they didn't get the call. These guys get such a huge advantage all game long and they act like they're getting shafted by the refs all night long.....

Meanwhile the Suns get hammered and ridden all game long and can barely get a call or only get the call when the game is out of reach (especially Nash). We get ticky tack calls against us that are no calls when we are on offense. Even our home games haven't been on a level playing field so it's like playing all 7 games in SA.

jbeecham - that is not true - you just can't see it in the heat of the series

the tone of suns games has changed drastically (i mentioned this a while back) - i think it's a very whiney fan base with a lot of new fans who really don't know what they are looking at

the refs in the NBA are bad - always have been - unfortunately they probably always will be - the main difference between the suns & spurs as far as fouls is that the spurs play with their legs & torso and the suns play with their hands

no way has this been a one sided series on officiating - there have been terrible calls each way, missed calls each way - both teams whine after about every call - both fan bases will whine as well - however the spurs are using it to their advantage while the suns dwell on it and let it get in their heads

Heh, that would be cool. The Suns should have two free throws "in reserve" that they can use at any point in the series, for instance at the fourth-quarter buzzer of a game that would otherwise go into overtime. I think that would be fair compensation.

But no, it's just for the record now, except that Bowen's pocketbook will be a little lighter and he's one small step closer to a suspension based on the accumulation of flagrant foul points.

If your looking at overall count I agree. However, the refs are obviously not allowing the Suns to be as physical. Period. Calling ticky tack fouls on the Suns and waiting for a Spur to knock your head off before calling it on the other end is why the officiating is not even. Not to mention that if you watched the replays, Duncan had at least 4 no calls in that game. That's a perfect example. I for one am not whining about the number of calls. I just want it to be called the same both ways. Either let BOTH teams be physical or call everything both ways.
