he is in the last year of his contract. It would be a rental as you figure someone will pay him giant $ next offseason.

you could franchise him, but with all the other guys you need to resign, that would be tough.

I suppose you could, lets say, send a 3rd to Denver for him -- and when he leaves, you get a 3rd compensatory pick back in the 2024 draft.

I think you have to have an extension in place to trade for him, and I don't think he would do that.

I mentioned him as FA possibility in Burns thread. Depends on the draft capital. I wouldn't go higher than 5th round this and maybe a pick in 2024. He is a UFA at the end of the year and I don't see DEN franchising him so a couple of low round picks may be better than nothing unless Chubb has given indication he plans on re-signing.

I mean this would def be the angle.. but in the AFC West and him having 5.5 sacks already this year may change that position for Denver. Has he had a slow start - I would think what you wrote above would be Denver’s exact thinking; injured all the time, no way we are franchising him or signing to a long term deal.

12-15 sack season this season.. they def franchise him unless someone ponies up at trade deadline.

Three way trade with Green Bay.
Green Bay gets AJ
Cardinals gets Chubb
Denver get a 4th from us and a 7th that could turn into a 6th from Green Bay

His best season was with Vance Joseph (12 sacks), so I would think there’s interest on all 3 sides. After getting fleeced by Seattle, they are in dire need of picks. I could see this trade as a possibility. We are 1 game out of 1st & the SB is in AZ this year. SK/MB would definitely take the risk with Chubb at a position they are sorely in need of upgrading down the stretch.

Hard Knocks + Home Super bowl + being a clown show all last off-season might = MB selling out to get a SB this year. This move wouldn’t surprise me.

Denver got a lot of calls
about a lot of guys.

general consensus is, Russ is cooked, they got fleeced, and now they need to rebuild draft capital to rebuild the team.

But rumor has it.... Denver isnt ready to agree that is the situation.

This is where I’m at with this. It’s too early in the season for Denver to be completely punting 2022. Guarantee in that building they still think Wilson will figure it out and they will bounce back. No chance they trade their defensive star so soon.

If I had a choice, I'd go with a DT (Payne) rather than an Edge player. Like the saying goes:
"No Payne no gain"

Seems like a premier pass rusher is valued more and harder to find.

Regarding Chubb - the big questions are what would you have to give up, what contract would it take to extend him, and can he stay healthy.

Apparently Denver is getting lots of offers for both Chubb and Jeudy and is considering it because as you said they need to recoup some picks since the Wilson trade hasn't panned out

The compensation for these short term guys is going to be based on what they would get in comp picks.

So if Chubb hit FA he's going to get a Broncos a late 3rd round comp. He has a 12 sack season and he's 26.

So Broncos going to want at the very least a higher 3rd. Probably something like a 3rd and a 5th.

I would think a limited market too. I'm not sure Chubb is going to draw interest from 4-3 teams either. He's done everything as a standup OLB in the NFL.

Of all the analytics I'm most dubious about ESPN.

They have us 8th in pass rush win rate yet we have one of the lowest sack numbers in the league.

And they have us 27th in run stop win rate yet we are 6th in the league in rushing yards allowed per game.

I like adding a DT, because we have little depth at the position. We have a number of Edge prospects and I'm hoping that at least a couple can develop into good pass rushers.
