Keith will not unseat Gandy next year. I can see it already, there's going to be alot of Brandon Keith and Lance Long love going around this off season. Two guys that haven't played a down in the NFL yet people are going to assume they'll step in and play at a high level. I would love for that to be the case but it just doesn't work that way. They may be eased into backup roles and then,in a couple years, vie for a starting role. There's a reason young guys like DRC,Campbell, Iwebema, Hightower, and Doucet all saw action and those guys didn't.

You're very right in some aspects but there's also a reason why the coaching staff didn't try to slide Keith through to the practice squad. He survived camp and even was higher on the to totem pole than Vallejo (not that he should put that on his resume, I'm just saying). Keith's got something and I bet we hear quite a bit about him during camp.

I think the line needs to stay put, I know that's not the fun sexy answer but it's getting better and although it's not perfect I believe the familiarity is working some magic of it's own.

Better a group of guys who go to war as one than constantly trying to mess with it.

Who knows by next year they might learn how to run block better.

I think we will be drafting a LTOTF this year. I also expect to see a real three man war between Elton Brown, Duece and Keith for the RG spot. Even if we do draft a C I seriously doubt he starts right there, before spending some time at guard first. Regardless (and shockingly), I feel pretty good about our line's future.

1. We hear about these awesome training camp guys ever year. We hear about them because everyone loves an underdog and we already know about the starters so these lower guys get more attention.

2. Grass is always greener. We have these guys every year. Preston Parson syndrome. Not saying Keith is this but it happens more times then not.

3. Recently there was an article about Levi Brown and in it they had someone within the organization sstated that the OL ranking was as such, Wells, Gandy, Sendlien, Brown, Lutui. So why would the coaching staff move Wells to C where they wouldnt even move when Al Johnson got injured and wouldnt even think about him as a backup and kept bringing in scrubs to be the #2. Well will never be a C for us again unless absolute emergency. Next Why would the coaching staff make two moves on the OL when they only need to make one Keith for Lutui. And finally why wouldnt they try to replace the guy they think is the weakest link on the OL in Lutui by trying Keith there instead. The only place Keith has a shot of playing at is at RG. The other guys are entrenched in the coaches minds IMO.

4. Keith did play OG in training camp and preseason games along wth OT.

Can't really prove a flaw in the logic of this post, well I'll try anyway.;)

We have 2 OT's that have trouble with elite pass rushers. That makes it tough to help out both all the time. Limits scheming and the number or receivers actually running routes. Maybe this is also why our TE's are not more of a factor.

If Keith is the dancing bear we hear about and would upgrade one of the OT positions then make the move. I'd put him in Gandy's slot and slide that side of the line over to the right. So it would be a change of 3 positions but the continuity issue would be with Gandy, Keith & Wells Lutui.

If Keith replaces Lutui then Sendlien & Brown will also need to form that continuity. So pretty much a wash in the continuity piece.

The theory is if Gandy is a very good OT then he could be a probowl OG.

To me the Center position is vital to an effectice rushing offense. If Wells is a very good OG then could he be a probowl center? He has the feet, mobility and knowledge to be an excellent C. At this point I would think he is better at the point of attach against NT's then Sendlien.

Bottom line for me is we need to upgrade the OT position. How Grimm makes that happen is the point of this discussion, at least for me.

You don't shuffle guys in and out of the O-line during the season. Continuity is very important.

Excellent point and one of the key reasons that we did so well in the playoffs was the play of the Oline. It was mentioned several times that the unit was intact and started the whole season.

We do not have two tackles that have trouble with elite pass rushers. Gandy had one bad game against one elite pass rusher. The other 19 games he was handling elite pass rushers just fine on his own litle island.

Wells was already tried at C and it didnt work. There is a reason coaches havent tried him at Center since they got here. Even though Al Johnson was on IR and multiple other center injuries.

Gandy is playing great at OT, just moving him to OG doesnt mean he turns into a pro bowl OG. Its a different position all together and being a good OT doesnt mean they will be a good OG. One does not equal the other. Same goes for G to C move. Completely different skill sets and a leap in logic to assume that just because they are good at one they will be good an another.

I thought Levi played pretty good in the playoffs and think we should let the line continue to gel. Although, if Keith's footwork and pass protection are as good as advertised maybe we move Levi to RG and start Keith at tackle. Just another aternative.

I think that Keith has a long way to go to push for a starting spot and how quickly he travels down that road will be determined this offseason. Keith will need to get stronger and quicker if he wants a shot at starting.

We will see in August how far Keith has to go and not anytime before that.

Guys like him usually start year two, if technique is the problem but all else is golden it takes about two training camps to get them up to speed usually.
