Rookie return man named special teams player of the week

Cardinals rookie punt returner Steve Breaston streaks to the end zone during his 73-yard touchdown return Sunday against Pittsburgh.

Steve Breaston became the first Cardinal to return a punt for a touchdown in more than 14 years when he did so against Pittsburgh Sunday.

He was rewarded for it Tuesday.

Breaston was named the NFC’s special teams player of the week for his momentum-changing 73-yard race for a score in the 21-14 win over the Steelers. No Cardinal had pulled off the feat since Johnny Bailey had a 58-yarder in Washington on Sept. 12, 1993.

The return was also the longest punt return by a Cardinal since Vai Sikahema ran one back 76 yards in 1987 – before the franchise moved to Arizona.

“It was an emotional game for me, playing against my hometown (team),” Breaston said after the game. “I just wanted to go out and have fun.”

Breaston is fourth in the NFL with his 14.8-yard punt return average.

“The more I played, the more confident I got,” Breaston said. “Starting the season the season I was a little nervous, but I’m starting to settle down back there. I trust my players, I trust my blockers and I know they trust me. As long as they do their job up front and I do my job in the back then we are going to make plays all year.”

Heck yeah! The funny part was just 10 mins prior they flashed the stat that Arizona hasn't returned a punt for a TD since 1993! LOL, I thought that was great! They need to flash a stat this Sunday saying "Arizona hasn't beaten the Rams 49-0" in a long time! :D

I don't remember Breaston playing WR this past game. I do believe he is better than Morey and probably Urban. With his breakaway speed I would think the Cardinals would give him some opportunities at WR.

If the ball isn't sent to him via the foot he has an aversion to catching it.

We haven't had a return man like him since Vai Sikahema. Let's just let him return punts for a while. We have enough WR's.;)

Thank you, now remind all the people who blasted every draft pick. Way to go, Steve.

I was very happy with all our draft picks this year.

However, I admit I was pissed off when I was out of the house and abomb called me and said we drafted a WR in the fifth. I said "WTF???" and then when I got home I saw we drafted Breaston and I was ecstatic. I called him and said..."you know who we drafted with that fifth pick yo? It wasn't a wide reciever...it was a poor man's Ted Ginn!"

I was very happy with that pick.

But yeah, I pretty much am happy with most picks before they prove me wrong...

At this point, Ted Ginn is a homeless man's Steve Breaston!

Did you see Cardinals Live with him? He said he did the "layup" because after the long drive, he just wanted to lay it in all cool-like.

Love that guy!

Looks like he stole the idea from LT.
