Just once I'd like to see this guy do something that shows he knows anything aboout his players.

Bruney was totally burned out and Brenley just hung him out to dry.

I don't blame Brenley as much as I blame Daigle. Daigle didn't get out of the 4th FRICKIN INNING, if it wasn't for him we wouldn't have burned out our bullpen.

We had Good, Dessens, and Valverde left. THAT WAS IT

I don't care what 'the percentages' say about intentional walks - that's generic group data. The pertinent info is that with this bullpen, this team, you do NOT intentionally walk anyone in the ninth or beyond, especially with a pitcher starting to get in trouble thowing balls. Bruney didn't walk in the winning run - Brenly did. I have always defended BB, but he's losing me.

I'm not the type of guy who likes to banish rookies too quick, but Daigle needs to go back to the 'pen or back to Tucson to work on some things. When is Randolph going to get his shot at the rotation like we've been told he was going to get? Did he have a horrible spring or what?

With the Dodgers only a few games over .500, it's really a bad move to be throwing a guy every fifth day who's ERA is over 7.00. I doubt demoting him to the 'pen or to the minors will hurt his confidence as much as getting shelled every outing.

I think Andrew Good has looked Good in his appearences. I think he should get a shot at the starting rotation.

It's interesting that Randy Johnson spent 20 minutes talking with Casey Daigle after his poor performance.

No report of our Pitching Coach taking charge.

And, of course, Brenly venting his anger at Daigle through the Press. That'll build confidence.

Communications appears to be a real weakness within our Management team.

Does anyone else, besides me, think Brenley will get canned by the All Star Break?

Dont these guys ever learn?? i mean al they have to do is throw strikes. Look at Randy johnson as a perfect example. What happened when he threw strikes? He threw a Perfect Game. How hard is it to throw the ball over the plater every once in a while?? Just wait till we get Villareal back and he throws another wild pitch, scoring the runner from 3rd. These relievers need to get their act together.

I've been suggesting for a couple of years that Bob Brenly is a failure as Manager. That opinion has been lonely until recently.

He communicates with his players through the Press. He backs down when players question his decisions. His proclamations disappear each day with the sunset. He treats his lineups as though every game, all season long, were Spring Training.

Back when Buck Showalter was about to be fired, I was Bob Brenly's biggest supporter to get the job. His credentials seemed outstanding.

Predominantly a Catcher, handling pitching staffs. Mostly a National Leaguer throughout his playing career. Some coaching experience in the N.L. A TV analyst with the Diamondbacks since their inception.

As a player, he hit a few homeruns and stole a few bases. And experienced the All Star Game once. He knew what it meant to work hard for your success.

What a disappointment he has been. Each season worse than the one before it.

Yes, masterphomeg, someone besides you does think that Brenly will be gone before too long. I just hope that, instead of figureheads like Mark Grace or Robin Yount, a real Manager (Al Pedrique) gets the job.

John McGraw got the players he wanted. He would have had his unsavory pals fit GM Joe with cement booties long before this.

The more I think about it, the more I fear the rumor about Robin Yount in line to be our next Manager.

A shy guy with limited Coaching experience and no Managerial experience is going to instill spirit into a team that's sinking fast?

I can't forget his quote recently, when Brenly was suspended for a game and, instead of Robin voicing a confidence builder, said something like, "I hope Bob is close by in the runway."

Why didn't he just say, "I've got to manage this team for a day? Help!"

C'mon, now.

I agree!

I thinks it's ridiculous when somebody says "It's not Brently's fault that this team is stinking." Well, those are probably the same people that still believe in the tooth fairy! Like many of the other top managers that are successful year after year they have no problem taking the blame when their team is stinking. Because they know they are in charge of the team and their players are not in charge. That's why they are called "MANAGERS" they are responsible to manage the coaches and the players. When a player isn't living up to their potential it is the manager's job to much sure that either he, the hitting coach or the pitching coach works with that particular player to make sure they make the proper adjustments. If a player continues to be ineffective game after game then the coaches aren't doing their job. That's Brenly's responsibility to make sure he has coaches and players who know how to accomplished their jobs successfully.

But what I have observed during the past few years is Brenly has that "good old boy" attitude saying many times publicly "Well, these are big leaguers, they know what to do". Well, Brenly I have a news flash, evidently they don't!!! So wake up, stop standing in the corner of the dugout like a statue, blowing bubbles, unfold your arms and start doing you job. I have attended many games and have observed Brenly not one time talk to any of his players during the game. There is a reason why many of the teams are successful year after year. When watching their games you notice the manager is constantly walking down the dugout, sitting down next to players, consistantly "communicating" with them. That has been the biggest gripe of many ex-Dback players such as Overbay who was just recently quoted in a Milwaukee newspaper when he said "it's nice to be on a team that knows how to communicate." Haven't several other players stated the same comment in the past? I think it's no concidence! It's no secret that Brenly has no clue how to communicate with his players. I'm personally tired to him having press conference after press conference saying the same garbage game after game.

It's time he takes responsibility why this team is underachieving and starts managing this team correctly instead of constantly saying "I don't know what to do" to the press. He needs to get rid of that "good old boy" attitude and start managing this team by getting tougher, even if it means a "getting in your face" attitude and communicating better with his coaches and players. If he doesn't, I agree he'll be looking for work shortly!

Amen! I've been saying for a couple of years that Bob Brenly ruined his effectiveness as Manager when he announced -- through the Press -- that Erubiel Durazo would be moved to RF . . . then backed down, because he hadn't discussed it with the player first.

A year later, he announced -- through the Press -- Junior Spivey would be moved to RF . . . then backed down, because he hadn't discussed it with the player first. Not only doesn't he communicate with his players, he doesn't learn from his mistakes.

If a fan could predict that the team would stop responding to the Manager, why did D'backs upper management not see it or react to it?

It's interesting that Lyle Overbay went public with it. Thanks for posting it, River Dave.
