Brenly and Mondays game

I was really disapointed with how BB used the bench last night. Now I know they won the game but don't you think the use or lack of use of the righty lefty thing was forgetton last night. several times he had the oppurtunity to PH for a righty with a lefty or vice cersa and didn't.
Oh and did I see no one on or near 3rd Base whenever Gonzo came up with no on base. Seems to me a good hard bunt down that line and he could just walk to 1st. That would end the use of the shift quickly. Gonzo is a good hitter but he is no B Bonds, Ted Williams or Mickey Mantle. He is at his best when he is hitting to all fields and not trying to get it down the 3rd base line,when the shift is used, isn't getting him on base.

Well just a little rant. thanks for listening.
Will be at the game tonight and for the rest of the week. We need to sweep the Giants.

When teams do the shift on Gonzo, it is for a reason....

1. Gonzo is not a bunter.... Neither is Matt Williams for that matter, which was painfully obvious when he attempted to sacrifice last night

2. When Gonzo hits the ball on the ground, he will be pulling the ball--he very rarely grounds out to third or short

3. When Gonzo hits a fly, he uses all fields--thus, the outfield will be playing straight-away

Yeah, I'm not mad about Gonzalez not bunting. Matt Williams may not be a good bunter, but he needs to learn how because he's not a power hitter either.

As for Brenly's managing, I thought it was absolutely horrible. There seems to be a trend w/ Brenly lately in sacrificing hitting matchups for baserunning ones. The Dellucci decision in the 7th was nothing short of insane. He could have hit either Bautista or McCracken in that situation, but didn't. McCracken would have been the best move, because he could give the D-Backs a favorable matchup regardless of who Alou brought in. Instead, he concedes a lefty on lefty matchup and then a righty on righty one w/ Williams.

I think this year has shown that the real intelligence behind BB's managing was Melvin

I sure agree with that. JC re-upping BB's contract without seeing how he did without Melvin was another loyalty-uber-alles move.

One has to assume it was BB telling everybody and their cousin to bunt-bunt-bunt last night, whether they could or not - but tonight, going into the ninth against Worrell, after the way we rode him last night - everyone had the green light to hack away? What did he have, like an 8-9 pitch ninth inning? UN-FOR-GIV-ABLE!!! Just annoyed the bejeezus out of me. The managing sux this year.

You can't expect Worrell to be as wild as he was last night. If he's throwing strikes you have to swing. Down one run is different from being in a tie ball game. A home run would have tied it. If you get a pitch, you swing at it.

My point is - we didn't bother to SEE if he was wild or not - just everyone wants to be the hero and swung from the heels right away, when perhaps a little more patience could have shown other possibilities.
