dang, Ahmed. But we are battling!

The skipper has used Nick perfectly. In a platoon at SS against LH pitchers with Owings starting in RF and a few other times when resting Owings or moving him to 2B or even LF. Ahmed's batting average has become respectable in those circumstances.

The worst thing we could do would be to ever consider Ahmed's hitting as a lead shortstop. As that, and in any clutch at-bat against a righty pitcher, his makeup is a .230 hitter.

He is our best fielder at SS, but with a trio of light hitting Catchers and the Pitcher following Ahmed in the lineup, we need a good hitter/average fielder more than a great fielder batting seventh.

And when Delcalso is also in the lineup, that's four weak hitting positions out of nine. I believe that is one of the major reasons why we have been mediocre on the road. If we had batted our lead lineup in every road game, I expect we'd be leading the league.

• Godley is 1-1 with a 1.93 ERA in three home starts this season and is 1-0 with a 0.73 ERA in three games (two starts) in his career against the Brewers. He has held opponents to a .220 average, 11th-best in the National League (minimum six starts).

I think that sending Godley down to AAA for the Miami series cost us a game. If he were pitching that game instead of Shipley, there's a good chance that it would have been a W. I don't think there's much of a question that he should be the #3 starter behind Greinke and Ray.

The fact this is up for debate is maddening. Delgado is better in pen...Godley is better as starter.
