Tampa Bay has an option on him for another year but its an expensive option. They are working to resign him for a lesser amount. Tampa Bay has serious cap problems. I got this out of a Tampa Bay paper.

.

Thank you, that explains why he's so expensive, the option bonus.

I hate to break it to some of you but Josh isn't going anywhere. He is too cheap too young and has too much potential for the team to just let him walk. There aren't that many options out there better than him whether you want to believe that or not. He has made enough plays to guarantee himself atleast a tender.

He'll probably stay for a cheap tender, yes, but I seriously doubt he's our starter. If he is, then I seriously doubt, no matter who we have around him, that we make the playoffs.

I am surprised no one brought up McCown would probally beat out Griese if he was brought in. Griese not anywhere near the atlhlete McCown is and mccown also has had a year of Greens system now and has more of a repor with the whole team. Griese is not very mobile and he would get pretty banged up here.

Don't be. Even Josh's most ardent supporters haven't brought it up for a reason.

Depends. Griese was sacked once every 13 attempts last year in Tampa, Chris Simms one every 7, Simms is MUCH more mobile, but holds the ball too long like most young, confused QB's.

In Denver the fans say that Shanahan grew frustrated with Griese taking sacks because he couldn't use his moving pocket style that he's now using with Jake. Griese got sacked 38 and 34 times his last 2 years in Denver, Jake only 14 and 15 times behind largely the same OL. In Shanahan's system he apparently needs a QB who can move, Griese couldn't so he hurt the whole offense.

In Tampa his sack numbers were not horrible. My main concern with him is since his 2001 season and the shoulder injury and surgery, he's turned the ball over a LOT. He's cut down on his fumbles over the years but he still fumbles too much and throws picks, but then Josh is a fumble machine and the primary reason he didn't throw a lot of picks is he just didn't take shots downfield unless forced to.

Griese can't do jack if everything isn't perfect, and if he joied the Cards you would have an incredibly annoying poster appear as a huge Cards fan. 3 teams in 3 seasons and she still thinks he's one of the best QBs in the NFL.

Being an athlete is fine. Being able to read defenses and throw the ball accurately is better. Brady and Manning are great pocket passers and I am not sure you would call them great athletes. They pretty much stay in the pocket. Vick is a great athlete but he is sitting at home wathing the game this week like us. Give me a strong pocket passer over a guy who runs all over the place all the time.

Yeah that's the impression I get from Broncos fans, if the system works Griese is very good, if anything goes wrong, Griese is helpless.

THat San Diego loss this year really pointed that out, he had nearly 400 yards passing and 3 Td's but he gave the game away with picks and a fumble that were precisely what you mentioned, something broke down and he just essentially gave the ball to the defense instead of eating the ball and getting another play. That part of him really does concern me.

FWIW - didn't Gruden say that Griese was the smartest QB he's ever coached?

If Griese is available, we have to take a look at him. Maybe there are better options out there, but I'd rather see him suiting up over McCown. I like Josh, and I was opposed to his benching, but I have more confidence that Grieses will be able to run the offense. He may not have the strongest arm, but we're not exactly showing off a deep threat anyway.
