Whiz & their GM are at the Oregon Pro Day scouting and talking to Mariota. The Titans "Cap" guy is in Nashville working on the deal with Orakpo's agent. Its all about the money at the Ttans have lots of it.

and they have Dickie LeBeau, that's probably a good sell?

Ironically, the best player on that list, Greg Hardy, is a guy no one is going to touch with a 10 foot pole. Even teams desperate for a pass rusher, namely ARZ doesn't seem interested as D-Wash & Dwyer have them thinkng twice about bringing in a guy with that type of history.

I find that interesting to be honest. Hardy's case was dismissed, and Peterson pled guity. Obviously much different charges but IMO if a case is dismissed, you don't hold it against someone. My guess is there is a lot more character info out there amongst the coaching staffs.

Even if you're looking for the best pay day, doesn't it make to sign with the cards on a 1 year deal and parlay that into the big money deal.

Or, is TN really offering more than 1 year?

I would expect him to get a multi year deal but with Knighton only getting a one year deal I suppose its possible thats only Orakpo could get.

I get chasing the money, I really do, but if this guy has any competitive juice in him than why in the hell would he choose Tenn?

Why go through OTA's, mini-camps, training camp, endure all of the soreness, ice baths etc etc just to go out and lose every freakin sunday?

I don't get it. Yeah it might be a million or two more but don't most athletes want to win?

On some occasions, I think it's part of the mental makeup of a professional athlete. Call it ego, confidence, whatever, but I imagine a lot of athletes believe they're good enough to put a team on their back and radically improve the number of wins from the previous season. I also think there are plenty of dudes that do it for the paycheck, and recognize the short careers they'll likely have, and want to cash in for as much as possible.

I think he is way overrated and don't really care if we get him - would rather we sign Wisniewski.

There's the idea of playing in a weaker division. Playing in the NFC West you're going to really earn your money and wins are going to be earned as well but in the AFC South, the competition isn't as tough.

Yup... Which didn't ruin anybody the quarterbacks that he supposedly ruined were no talent crappy QBs never should've been starting to begin with. Now they want to knock his ability to recognize somebody that can pick up and start in this league I get it to say he ruined them is ludicrous.
Agree with this mostly. I don't think Whiz ruined anyone, but I'm not convinced he made anyone better either.

I think the "ruining" diatribe comes from the Leinart fiasco and that alone.

Good post. Look at a dude like Revis. Keeps betting on himself and comes up nails every time. He should have been finished in Tampa, instead he wins a ring in NE and when it's all done he'll have earned in guaranteed money probably more than any other football player, ever. Leaves NY because he feels he's worth more and he should have disappeared... Now he's back in NY with another huge payday. That's all attitude.

And a crap load of talent, obviously.

Is he worth it? Is he a solid player besides the injuries?

I will just quote myself from another thread:

Quote:
- Brian Orakpo:
This is a boom or bust free agent. If he stays healhty Orkapo is the type of outside linebacker that the Cardinals defense wants. The problem with Orakpo is that he is never healthy, and it has been a while since he has flashed that ability that brought his name into the spot light. Yet, if the Cardinals were to sign him, and he stay healthy he would be a perfect fit for the Cardinals and there defense. Dare I say we would have a dangerous four man pass rush ? Not to mention Orakpo could stay on the and play against the run.
I think you are spot on with this, RugbyMuffin. I have been thinking myself that - if healthy - Orakpo would probably be the prototypical pass rushing linebacker in Bettcher's defense.

I think he could prove to be an extraordinary signing. It probably wouldn't make drafting an edge rusher early on less of a possibility but I really think Orakpo would be worth the risk.

Big early morning move out of Tennessee: Titans reached agreement with former Redskins LB Brian Orakpo, per source.

I saw that about five seconds after positing that I would like the Cardinals to sign him. :)

Maybe they will go after someone else now. Derrick Morgan comes to mind as a guy I think could be a decent fit. Again, it probably wouldn't eliminate drafting an edge rusher but it would set up the team better before the draft.

If they decide to pursue another player then I would hope it's either Morgan or Ayers. Wait check that, just read that Ayers signed on with the Rams, 2 year contract so he is no longer available.

Free agent DE/OLBs left:

Greg Hardy
Brian Orakpo
Derrick Morgan
Michael Johnson
Akeem Ayers
John Abraham
George Selvie
O'Brien Schofield

Now that Ayers has signed with the Rams and Orakpo is a Titan and Morgan isn't on the Cardinals radar and Johnson is probably going to sign with the Vikings there isn't anyone else on this list worth pursuing.

Minus off field problems, Greg Hardy is the best pass rusher on the market.

What ever happened to wanting to win? I don't know about you guys but if I were a player, I'd take a championship over the money any day, especially if the money difference is minimal. I mean, did Orapko even come here for a visit? Probably not. Good luck with 4-12 Brian.
